Teach a course at Victoria University called "The Long Story." Like every other visitor to New Zealand, I hope to discover the awe-inspiring unspoiled natural settings where they filmed Flight of the Conchords.
I'm Hungarian Jewish/Irish Catholic. I can basically grow a beard in front of you like other people can cross their eyes. In conversation I tend to be soft-spoken, but I might take a jellybean from my pocket and fling it to the sidewalk, startling onlookers. When I audition for plays I tend to be cast as policemen and sheriffs, not because there's anything particularly law-abiding about me but because I can't act, and directors want to give me a role where the hat will do most of the work.
"Hope, they say, deserts us at no period of our existence. From first to last, and in the face of smarting disillusions, we continue to expect good fortune, better health, and better conduct; and that so confidently, that we judge it needless to deserve them. I think it improbable that I shall ever write like Shakespeare, conduct an army like Hannibal, or distinguish myself like Marcus Aurelius in the paths of virtue; and yet I have my by-days, hope prompting, when I am very ready to believe that I shall combine all these various excellences in my own person, and go marching down to posterity with divine honours. There is nothing so monstrous but we can believe it of ourselves... Every sin is our last; every 1st of January a remarkable turning-point in our career.”
- Robert Louis Stevenson
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I once stayed in a mansion in Hyderabad, India that, a mere two years after I was there, was used to host a bunch of Couch Surfers who, I'm told, smoked weed loudly and irritated the servants.
Looking for one!
Culinary: cheese (Stilton, pecorino romano), ramen (either the real kind with pork bits and green onion or the fifteen-cent Maruchan, I don't discriminate), fish (whitefish, walleye, striped bass.)
Cinematic: I just concluded a heated 3-day discussion about the top 50 films of the 2000-2009 decade, but I would be happy to talk about the films of a different decade.
Sartorial: Dark pink is a good color on me.
Music, Movies, and Books
I'm currently reading St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves by Karen Russell, True History of the Kelly Gang by Peter Carey, and The Man with the Golden Arm by Nelson Algren.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The view from the cliffs at Point Reyes National Seashore, just north of where I live in San Francisco, California. It's... wow. Really something. You should come here.

Don't let anyone sell you a samosa for more than eleven cents, anywhere in the world.
