One of us is retired, the other is still working as a nutritionist. Now that our kids are grown, we want to do more exploring. We most enjoy meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and having conversations that let us draw from other's experiences and share some of ours.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people, develop friendships, and exchange ideas in informal settings. Back in the 80's we traveled and hosted travelers as members of a organization called Servas, which is similar to couch surfing.

Interests

Photography, surfing, hiking, cooking (especially new ethnic foods), swimming, camping, traveling off the beaten track and never with organized tour groups.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We went to China in 1984, spent 8 weeks working as the only Americans at a Chinese Institute and traveling around the country. This was just shortly after China opened to US travelers. We had amazing experiences, in some areas people had never seen foreigners (and Fred is over 2 meters tall, so he stands out in a crowd).
