About Me

A French/African girl, embracing her womanhood with a (sometimes) dandy/boyish look, studying German with English at university in Central London.

CURRENT MISSION

Visiting Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Hungary, Romania, Italy, Norway, Scotland.
But mainly: not failing my first year of uni, while still being able to have fun and meet like-minded people.

. . .

I'm quite laid back... I love meeting new people, especially people from different/diverse backgrounds...Basically, pretty much anyone on Earth right now. I love learning magic tricks. Unfortunately, I am outrageously bad at reproducing them. Bantering and having long thoughtful walks along the Thames are two activities that I enjoy greatly (one more so than the other). I am trying to learn Japanese and Mandarin Chinese in my spare time, and hope to live a year in China after completion of my degree. I plan to use the four years of my course to travel as often as my budget allows me to, and welcome people in need of a place to crash.

I am very smiley, which often results in my receiving awkward glances on the tube or in the street. But life is sometimes just too beautiful; I can't help it.

If you like spicy food, weird sticky food (natto, anyone ?), baozi, mantou and Pocky, you're definitely welcome to stay one weekend (and if you don't tick any of the above...I'll see what I can do for you ;) )

I often go back to Paris during the holidays, so it might be possible for you to visit me there.

"A good cook. I only visit her for the food" - a (former) friend.

"Lovely hair...it's entertaining. She's lovely but often cynical... I guess that's because she's French. It gets worse when she drinks" -a German student.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Ever since I can remember when travelling with my mother (which I must have done pretty much my entire young life, from a phoetus to a 5'3" thingy), she's always tried to be close to the locals, share what she knew, especially on a culinary level, learn from them, often with the language barrier, and bond with them (sharing/giving has a considerable place in our family). And from the normal touristy experience, it always went to a great, memorable experience. We met people I wouldn't have imagined I could meet on a trip and in such a short time, and they all became good family friends. It often started with the locals offering us a place to stay for a night or two after realising that we've got a lot in common. It certainly had an impact on the way I now see the whole travelling and sharing thing. She must have passed all this, the will to make friends and to share, down to me.
I guess I'm just looking for something similar to that, and offering a place to stay is just my way to show how grateful I am for the kindness I've received, I receive and I certainly will receive (well...hopefully!).

Music, Movies, and Books

CocoRosie, Agnes Obel, Enya, Muse, Yann Tiersen (New Age, Pop, Folk, Rock, Olafur Arnalds, modern classical music... but open to novelty).
Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go and The Remains of the Day. Agatha Christie, Baudelaire, Jean-Paule Sartre, Pierre Bottero et tutti quanti.
The best films are the ones that always have the best soundtracks...my top 7 would be Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, Goodbye Lenin, Never Let Me Go, Edith Piaf (biopic), Die Quellen des Lebens, Murnau's Faust (...)
P.S I love anime...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being born? Well I didn't actually give birth to myself, all the merit goes to my dear mother. But because it all started with that, I guess that's the greatest thing she's accomplished for me (and that I have accomplished in a way?), and that's led me to other great things so...Voila.

Teach, Learn, Share

Willing to teach, learn and share cooking recipes from my native country and traditional French recipes (I know very little about British cuisine, but Jamie Oliver's always here to help), and also willing to share my fridge.
I would love to teach you some French or English, if you can teach me a bit of a language you can speak fluently.
I should be available to show you around the city if needed.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Probably the best free creamy hot chocolate around London and Paris.
