About Me

NOTE: I am not travelling or hosting right now, but looking forward to both when the pandemic subsides!

I'm a norm-critical, queer, kinky, relationship anarchist non-binary thing who breathes for activism. My pronouns are they or it. I get through everyday-life by occasionally traveling, always eager to see new places and absorb new cultures, but preferrably in a "slow travel", environmentally sane fashion. I have an interest in languages and enjoy challenging myself by diving head-first into unknown settings. I can be a planner, an analyst, trying to solve world problems or thinking about the wonderful people in my life. Sometimes people describe me as calm and harmonious to be around. I'm also outgoing and adventurous, playful and spontaneous, dark and twisted, fierce, and good to have by your side in emergencies. I love people, I'm drawn to chaos, and I think sometimes in order to feel alive and feel like living, I need to put my ordinary life on hold. Traveling opens me up and grounds me. Traveling in the company of others is nice, but traveling alone can be spectacularly challenging and thrilling. I want all the feels, the whole spectrum, all the time. I strive to be radically genuine in everything I do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of the very best things with traveling is to get to meet locals in the new terrain, discovering the world through the eyes of others and getting in tune with other cultures and languages. Couchsurfing is a channel that allows me to achieve this in an authentic, casual way. I enjoy the prospect of meeting new people where they are, discovering common grounds and differences and forming bonds with strangers by acquiring their trust and being invited into their homes. It's a beautiful thing, making the world a warmer place. Now that I've also had the pleasure of staying with some truly wonderful hosts in Birmingham, I am eager to continue both surfing and hosting, and keeping the magic going!

The thing that captivated me about couchsurfing is that it enables everyone to travel and acquire all of the amazing experiences mentioned above, no matter your SES. I'm glad and grateful that this community exists, facilitating the crossing of borders (both literally and more metaphorically speaking!)

Interests

Traveling, activism, writing, reading, sensory exploration, a whole host of playful kinky practices, being outdoors, the environment and climate change issues, philosophy, languages, rock music, rebellion against problematic societal structures, hanging out with friends, and finding new means of expression and self-exploration. And funnily enough, now I can also add cooking to this list! I've always found cooking dreadfully boring and I haven't been particularly good at it, but I've been vegan since 2016 and let me tell you, vegan cooking is a creative instrument. And cooking in company is awesome!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Joan Jett, ACDC, Black Sabbath, Guns 'n Roses, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, Placebo, Arctic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine, The xx, queercore in general, and whole worlds of more.
Movies: Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, Fried Green Tomatoes, Lost and Delirious, Thelma and Louise, Moulin Rouge, Into the Wild, The Runaways, Better than Chocolate, Dead Poets' Society, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Bound, Wild, La vita è bella, etc. Movies that are experimental, deviate from norms, resonate with feminist values, feature very multidimensional characters or in other ways move me will always be worth rewatching!
Books: Right now I seem to be caught up in books with refreshing perspectives of the world, of human and animal rights activism, of imperfect circles and moneyless economies, of peace movements and caring for our earth-others, and of people stepping with one foot toward the utopia they envision while keeping the other foot well-grounded into contemporary cultural realities.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I ran away to Italy in my mid teens - and for the first time in my life I was absorbed into another culture without simply standing on the touristic outside looking in! It was truly amazing!
I also spent a month in July-August 2016 walking the Camino de Santiago (the French way), and it currently feels like the best thing I've ever done in my life. Such a powerful experience, such amazing people!
