Im on couchsurfing 'cause I have always liked traveling and learning about new cultures, exploring new worlds and integrating them to my own life... and I know sometimes we don't have enough money/time/like to stay in a hotel/hostel and I believe is better to know the place you are going to travel by staying at places where locals run their rules and show you around what's really on.
