About Me

I'm a first-year student at Mardin Artuklu University. I am studying anthropology. I learned English last year, and now I am studying Italian. I enjoy meeting all different kinds of people from around the world and learning about other cultures. I've never visited another country besides Turkey, but I hope to escape soon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My friends and I have been on Courchsurfing and hosting people in Mardin since March 2013, and I have hosted people from Australia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Namibia, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland, Thailand, the UK, the US, and many many other countries. Mardin is a very beautiful and historic city, and I enjoy showing people around the town and climbing the surrounding mountains to drink tea and watch the sun set.
I am learning Italian and I would especially like to welcome Italian visitors to our home to practice the language and learn about Italian culture.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Mesopotamia is amazing and I am glad I live here.

Teach, Learn, Share

I grew up in a beautiful village on the Tigris River. In my village, we speak Zazaki. The Zazaki language is closely related to Persian. There are between 2 and 3 million people in Turkey who speak Zazaki, but Zazaki isn't even a choice on the pulldown menu of languages on Couchsurfing! What gives? I want people to know that we, the Zaza, are here, and we are trying to preserve our language and culture.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I live in a big, comfortable flat with two housemates. One is an economics student and another is an English teacher and linguist at the university. We are good cooks! So come and visit us. Our house is in the historic Old City of Mardin. We can show our visitors the churches, mosques, madrasas, and beautiful streets of Mardin. And we can climb the local mountains to greet the dawn or drink tea and watch the sun set.
