About Me

(Most people call me Katrina. Some people call me Kawa!)

I'm a mathematician and nerd originally born and raised in New York City looking outward for new and exciting experiences!

I love trying new restaurants and soaking in culture, walking in unfamiliar environments for the sake of exploration.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting the locals anywhere I go, exploring outside what's expected of a tourist!

Interests

A small subset of things I like: statistics and data analysis, origami, the Ghost in the Shell anime series, watching soccer, roguelike video games, cold brew coffee, subways, Minecraft, musical theater, and just about any eggless food I can make or get my hands on.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've got a pretty wide music range, with a soft spot for soft singer-songwriter works, some electronic/techno, and prog rock.

My taste in fiction leans heavily towards speculative fiction - GNU Terry Pratchett, the cyberpunk works of Masamune Shirow, and Neil Gaiman's novels are all in my current rotation. (I have a long history of loving anime, with a very wide range there.)

And while it's not listed here, I can't go on without talking video games - I've got a big soft spot for old style roguelikes and story-driven RPGs.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ziplining across the Smoky Mountains was an incredible, beautiful experience that I don't think I could ever repeat.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you eat pork, I have a killer Filipino-style pork adobo recipe. If you're crafty, I'd love to teach you how to fold a paper crane. If you're taking any level of math up to about mid-undergraduate level, I could probably tutor with some advance notice!

I love learning about people, food, and cultures beyond what I get to see every day.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm more than happy to cook, help around the house, and generally be accomodating!
