About Me

I try to be a fashion photographer - www.flickr.com/petermethven

If you are into photography we could get along very well!!

I have just finished studying Law, it's my masters, its my third and thankfully final piece of education II'll have completed. I already have an honours bachelors in psychology and a bachelors of law too . I work as a night club photographer at the weekends to earn a little extra money, I also work as a barman so can make a mean cocktail. I'm dead keen on photography and like exploring odd and different places which others don't see the merit in!

I like collecting odd things, particularly weird old photographs. I'm really into hand coloured pictures from the 50's right now where nobody smiles. I also have a scarily large collection of vintage cameras which keeps on growing. But mostly I focus on digital as film can be too expensive. Im also into whisky and normally bring a bottle with me for travelling.

I used to be a radio Dj in glasgow, mostly dabbling in electronic music but not adverse to classical music and blues. I'm really into music and have quite a large record collection. I go out a lot, and love music.

I lived in Argentina for a year so I speak pretty good Spanish although I haven't practiced in a while.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I find travelling with a guide book boring and methodological, it doesn't allow you to experience anything new just a reinterpretation, it's far more fun having someone take you to their favourite secret spot that you would otherwise never discover. Thats the magic which travellers can share with one another. I like to meet like minded people, and I generally find I'm most at home with other travellers.

Interests

As I said I'm particularly keen on photography and music. I also read a lot of classic literature mostly on lend from my friends, I find the best books through other people. I have a little soft spot for the beat poets. However I'm not adverse to the odd comic book.

Music is a somewhat competitive subject amongst my peers, so I love talking about it and sharing it as well as going to gigs.

I like to try and take little trips to parts of Scotland I've not been to. There is a ghost town which was built for miners and never used which i would like to visit.I'm somewhat draw to abandoned or incomplete buildings and enjoy exploring them, I quite like dystopian literature so I guess this is a reflection in my own life. I've started climbing Scottish mountains recently, the views are incredible but my legs normally punish me for a few days afterwards.

I have a racing bike and cycled all the way through the winter in Scotland without waterproofs. So I'm a pretty hardened cyclist. I love cycling and would take any opportunity to do it somewhere I've not been. George orwell said the best way to see a country is on a bike!
I guess you'd call me an artist but I wouldn't.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to Tokyo on an exchange when I was 14 was a real eye opener on travelling for me. Tokyo blew my mind when I was that age. It opened the world up to me.

I moved away from home when I was 16 stayed in a really bard part of town (as it was all I could afford) and managed not to kill myself.

Traveling round Eastern Europe in 2008 when I was 18 was good fun taught me a lot of life lessons and I met a lot of people who I'm still in touch with.

Getting a motorbike in central India 2009 and riding to see temples.

In 2011 I managed to visit five countries over the summer by land. (I come from an Island)
Visiting an abandoned american spy station in berlin 2011.

Made it round half a continent in 2 months, in 2013! We estimate around 25,000km but it could be more.

Finally I travelled all the way from Colombia to Argentina by bus and ended up changing my ticket twice to continue living in Buenos Aires.

Then speak.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm an incredibly easy to get along with person and my interests are quite versatile so I'm at home everywhere! I'm a fantastic cook (If I do say so myself! ; ) ) so I like to cook with my hosts, or cook for them I've got a recipe book I've been compiling of things I've cooked with friends at home or foreign alike. I'm open to discussion and would hope I could impart a little something from myself and gain something from someone else!
