About Me

I like people who are curious, knowledgeable, and who want to learn. I'm a bit of a know-it-all, but I practice humility, open-mindedness and a have a genuine appetite for new knowledge, at least when it's served to me after 9am. I love animals, like kids, I enjoy baking and can cook a helluva vegetarian dinner.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been to four of six continents, both volunteering, studying and as a tourist, and though I love traveling, what frustrates me the most is that as a tourist you rarely get to meet the locals. I want to meet people, both abroad (and eventually, when I get my own sleeping-size couch) and at home, from around the world. I love the world.

Interests

Reading, traveling, editing and writing (I am part of the editorial board of a journal), music and concerts, volunteering, sewing (I make my own clothes), drawing, beer-tasting, cooking, martial arts, bouldering and yoga.

Music, Movies, and Books

Folk music, rock, heavy metal and downbeat electro-music.

For movies I like it when it's in uncanny valley. Especially the ones of Guillermo del Toro or smart science fiction and fantasy. In truth I'm a bit of a fantasy/scifi-geek which also transfers to books: LotR-series (ofc), anything by Ursula le Guin, most anything by Patrick Rothfuss.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Four things:
I volunteered for two months at an animal sanctuary for cheetahs in South Africa.
I moved for half a year to Montreal, without ever having been in Canada before.
First time I went skydiving I jumped solo from 15000 feet. The third time I jumped I broke my ankle.
I have crowd-surfed and stage-dived.
