About Me
Hah, "sum up your life in a few paragraphs"....
I'm a pretty regular person I guess. I enjoy socialising, talking around tables that have beverages or food resting on them and especially going to see live music, although I am just as happy spending time on my own, reading or exploring.
I carry a hammock around in case there's anywhere to hang it, there's nothing better than a good lazy hang with a book.
I can talk about music for hours.
I'm not religious but I respect peoples' beliefs; there's always something to learn.
I support human rights.
I support human lefts. I karaoke.
I'm a pretty good cook, omnivorous, I like to buy and eat local when possible, it's nice to learn about local ingredients and cuisine.
What else? Uh, I've got a decent sense of humour I suppose, it helps me keep things in perspective.
I'm respectful and clean, I always wipe my feet and keep my things tidy and I'm not afraid to help out with chores.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I first started travelling, my mother said something like "A lot of people are going to take you into their homes, pick you up when you're hitch-hiking, or show you kindness when you're alone in a strange place. So if any of them ever make it to New Zealand then let them know they're always welcome at our house, too". And probably also "Behave yourself".
So I always loved telling people all about where I'm from, and learning all about where they're from. And when I'm living somewhere and I meet travellers, I like showing them around and pointing them in the right direction if I can because I know what it's like.
One of my favourite things about humans (in spite of our numerous failings!) is our ability to recognise, share and help each other. When you travel, there are times for hostels and hotels and there are also times and places when it's just so nice to have somewhere that feels more like home, with regular people doing what they do. I know I'm not the only one who likes to make friends and try to experience things from a local perspective when they travel, and what better way than through the hospitality and generosity of the locals!
