About Me

I'm a 25 year old photographer/artist living in Brooklyn, NY USA. I've been living in this wonderfully chaotic city for over 4 years. Although I'm generally a city dweller, somehow enjoying living in such a big city where the concept of personal space is basically nonexistent, I have developed a profound fondness for the outdoors. I like to spend my free time hiking, camping, kayaking, and rock climbing with friends.

I'm a fairly outgoing person, and always up for a good conversation. I find small talk a necessary evil and like to get past it as quickly as possible so we can dive into more interesting conversations about life and the world we live in. That being said I'm never ashamed to have a laugh about my not so secret love of certain pop music.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Since moving to New York after college I turned my couch into the landing spot for all the graduates who came after me in school and thought they wanted to move to New York. I knew how hard it was moving to a new city, and how wonderful it was to know someone was willing to open their home to you and help you get acquainted with a new city. It became a spot where friends, friends of friends, and even just a vague acquaintance knew they could stay whether they were moving to town or just passing through for the weekend.

I've never officially hosted or been hosted by someone through couchsurfing, but I've had the pleasure of hosting surfers through friends. When a good friend of mine had surfer friends visiting the city, but her roommates wouldn't allow them to stay in her apartment my roommate and I found a way to make room in our apartment for them. This is what made me want to try couch surfing for my next round of traveling.

Opening your home to people is an incredible way to make friends and to simply learn about the world through a different perspective, which is why I would love to couch surf during my stay in Denmark. I know I'm new to this, and my references are lacking, but I'm hoping a few good conversations and some trust can help me join this incredible community.

Ideally I would love to have a host that can show me around to a few places, but ultimately I'm simply looking for a place to lay my head at night. When it comes to visiting a new place I'm really up for anything and everything. Whether it's museums, galleries, or hiking during the day or going out and exploring a city until all hours of the morning. Who knows when I may get to go back to a city, so I certainly don't want to miss anything.

Interests

My interests are all over the place, and the list of what I'm interested in is constantly growing. I grew up playing music and am a trained classical pianist. I don't play as much anymore because of time constraints (usually if I sit down to play I get lost in it for hours and forgot everything else I'm supposed to be doing), but I still love to play from time to time. I worked at a tech company for a few years which has piqued my interested in electronics, mostly the interaction of art and electronics. I think some of the most amazing present day artwork is being created at the intersection of tech and art.

In the past year I've become an avid rock climber which has also led me to take up yoga to help make me a better climber. I had to take a brief hiatus from climbing after I slightly broke my leg while bouldering at the gym. If we ever get on the topic of rock climbing in a conversation I'm sure I'll tell you the full story and about how I believe it is possible to only "sort of" break your leg.

I know I'm years behind on this, but I've finally jumped on the podcast train. My previous jobs were not conducive to listening to podcasts while working, but with my current job I can listen to all the podcasts I want. I tend to stick to a few types of podcasts that focus on storytelling and/or neuroscience. I think if I were ever to go back to school and no longer be working as a photographer I would go back for neuroscience.

I enjoy spending most of my time with friends or surrounded by other people, but I also like to explore on my own. Ideally when visiting a new city I would love to have someone show me around or at least point me in the direction of some of the most interesting museums, events, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I bungee jumped off a bridge in the middle of the mountains in California. That was pretty amazing. But I think the most amazing thing I'm about to do is hike the Laugavegurinn Trail in Iceland by myself in a few weeks.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a passion for good conversation and the sharing of knowledge. I think that is the greatest thing I can share with a host - new perspectives and hopefully a few good stories. Also I can cook! It's mostly vegetarian food, but I promise it's still absolutely delicious and I would love to cook for you if you hosted me!
