About Me

Mission: The Great Southbound Drift

Hi everyone!

I´m really not as old as the text says, at least I don´t feel any older than i did 10 years ago inside.
I try not to judge others, I have enough with my own vices.
I´m a father of four, a son, a grandson and a big brother.
I probably make the worlds best pizza from the ground up, I'm telling you dude, for real...
I´m a pretty decent sailor, quite knowledgeable in both history and general useless stuff, but straight out terrible when it comes to singing in the shower!
I´m a underground dj and a wannabe producer, an ecstatic adventurer, the last viking and on occations a little bit to drunk...

I am: all for cannabis legalization, gay marriage, decriminalization of drug users, animal rights, and free medical care for all...

I am not: a drug addict, gay or lesbian, a wild wolf or a saint...

DISCLAIMER:
Subject have been raised with good manners, is polite, fully potty trained and quite able to clean up his own mess, he has even got some years experience as a wipped husband for what it might be worth. But unfortunately the nights might be occasionally disturbed by lumbermill sounds during sleep cycle...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Life has gone tits up and I have embarked on the adventure of an lifetime.

As a performer of underground dance music, the norwegian marked is quite narrow, some would even say borderline microscopic. As a result it turned out quite difficult to maintain an apartment, and even down hard impossible to survive in one of the most expensive countries in the world.

I had for many years been fantasizing about restoring an old sailboat for easy and low cost/impact living, and now this seamed like an great idea.
Except I did not have the funds to buy a boat that would fit the purpose, and like I said both the working and living situation had already gone tits up so what to do...

Then like a sign of good fortune i read this article about marinas all over the Mediterranean who is battling an increasing problem of boats being left and abandoned. It was literary like in the cartoons, it said "ping" and I had an idea for a amazing adventure.

The Idea is quite simple and quite insane, but YOLO right? :P

Im gonna be drifting southbound towards the mediterranean where I will start the search of a boat, hopefully something for free and something that it is possible to bring back to life with little money and lots of sweat equity. All while at the same time trying to fix as many gigs and odd jobs on the way in an effort to bring in as much money as possible to pay for the hole damn thing.

But Im also a really big on history and I want to see as much of this world as I can before we humans are able to ruin it. So for me this is also a journey thru cultural growth, heighten social knowledge and a chance to meet new people in new situations as well as a test of my own abilities to survive and thrive and turning negatives to positives.

And jeah, I'm planning to walk quite a bit and spending some of my time under the stars as well. And I'm starting with absolutely no fallback plan, no contingency and less than €100 to my name...

LIFELESSONS
Nothing is impossible, it just takes a little more time and effort, and every problem is just an opportunity in disguise!

So I herby invite you to participate in this amazing story that´s gonna be the start of my new lifelong adventure. If your in the nightlife industry or know people who might have openings for gigs or other odd jobs, or just wanna meet up for a beer and do some networking, don´t hesitate to reach out. Or if you´re home is on a possible route and you have a place for me to stay for a couple of nights, I would be forever grateful...

My genres of music ranges from Deephouse, Disco and Indie, thru Industrial, Tribal and Techhouse, to Minimal and Techno. Check out one of my podcasts here: https://soundcloud.com/djnormanstar/smallcast-dec2014

The route is only loosely planned with a few "waypoints" so Im hoping to be guided by chance about where to go. If anyone has any ideas let me in on it, historic sites and cities and places where I can get some work/gigs is the determinating fact of course ;)

My journey so far:
Oslo, Norway
Copenhagen, Denmark
Nykøping, Denmark
Hamburg, Germany
Einhoven, Holland
Schijndel, Holland
Amsterdam, Holland
Den Hague, Holland
Brussels, Belgium
Mons, Belgium
Le Quesnoy, France
Amiens, France
Saint Malo, France

I started from Oslo sunday the 19th of July 2015 and the plan is to be in Malaga sometime during the end of August to start search along the gold coast for a suitable sailboat.

I hope to meet and get to know you on this trip, it´s gonna be epic... :D

Update 17th of August 2015
I have currently traveled all the way to St. Malo on a shoestring budget using trains, buses, thumbs and feet. Here I was supposed to board a sailboat that would take me the rest of the way, but it turns out the captain of the boat has blown me of and let me hang to dry here in Bretagne. But hey, thats life so I'm currently picking myself up and are looking for a plan B. And that plan is now to get to Brest, France where I once again hope to find a sailboat who needs a crew member to take me to Portugal or Spain...

- A truly beautiful thing never craves attention...

- The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing...
