About Me

I grew up in the small-town Southern USA, studied and worked 8 years in Knoxville, and for the past 5 years have been traveling the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Australia, Southeast Asia, New Zealand and North Africa.

As a child I read many books and as an adult I watched a lot of cartoons.

I'm vegetarian.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In previous travels, staying with locals has been the best way to experience a culture, so I'm interested in exploring deeper by trading in hostels and hotels for traditional hospitality that allows for more authentic experiences and cultural exchanges as well as meeting new friends.

When it becomes possible I would enjoy hosting guests to repay the favor, play tour guide, and experience my own environment from an outsider's perspective.

Interests

In general I'm a consumer of arts, a dabbler in technology, and a believer in sustainable living.

Recently I'm interested in DIY cell phone repair, graphic design, permaculture, and started a small business with my wife, shopfolk.org

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a sucker for genre fiction and nerd culture but I also appreciate the classics and the occasional dry non-fiction.

Music: 90's rock, mashups, techno, metal, triphop, folk
Movies: silent film, british comedy, french new wave, pulp action, martial arts
Books: fantasy, sci-fi, biographies, philosophy

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I managed to find the serpent rock at the ancient city of Petra.

Teach, Learn, Share

We are interested in sharing and learning permaculture/homesteading skills including kitchen aspects like fermenting foods, vermicomposting, etc. Our experiences as guests often involve cooking up a storm, but we can hold back if requested. A kitchen can be a personal space, after all. :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

My wife and I have accumulated a few years worth of travel stories as well as certifications in Thai massage and Permaculture Design. We're also accustomed to cleaning up after ourselves.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, New Zealand, United States
