About Me

I have been living in Somerville Ma in the same apartment for the last 8 years, working variously as a baker, dogwalker and gardener for hire and have loved it. But lately I have been feeling restless and at a crossroads... I don't want to be in the city anymore, with it's speed and noise and constant construction. So I got rid of all my stuff, gave up my apartment and decided to go awandering for awhile.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It fits the spirit of the way I want to live right now, meeting nice people and seeing new things!

Interests

Plants and gardening, especially medicinals, permaculture, and weeds (just gotta love any life that we can't control)... I love dogs, cats, and most other critters, both domestic and wild. Lately have been trying to get to know more about birds. I like walking and meditating, reading and writing, looking and listening closely, and living simply.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh dear! Too hard to narrow down favorites, but... Moviewise, anything Robert Altman directed, Shaun of the Dead and zombie movies in general, Nick and Nora (and Asta!), My Man Godfrey, Singing in the Rain, Ozu, Akirasawa, Le Samurai, really anything with a distinct sensibility. Books are like this too. My most returned to authors are Italo Calvino, Wendell Berry, Jane Austin, Charles Simic, Haruki Murakami, Eugenio Montale, Alice Munro... I have a special fondness for overheard music, like when you walk past an open window and someone is singing or playing a violin, but will listen to anything as long as I am not in a small room and there isn't any place to dance!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Made my garden in Somerville mostly self perpetuating!

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach someone to make a yummy krautchi, easy pie crust, and the best way to pack a box of books. I am willing to learn just about anything, as long as it doesn't involve heavy machinery. I like sharing moments, laughter, meals...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can weed your garden, make a meal, walk your dog...

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain
