Overview
About Me
I study Classics, ie. literature, philosophy and arts of Greece and Rome and their impact on modern times. I love learning about cultures, their peculiarities, how they shape the ways of thinking and perceiving reality.
I am passionate about travelling - changing places as a means of coming into dialogue with other modes of living and thinking, and of observing how past, present and future mirror, distort and anticipate each other - it also gives me an opportunity of leaving my comfort zone to taste something new and of learning different approaches to things so far taken for granted.
So far I've visited mostly European countries - maybe at some point my adventures will gain a transcontinental dimension.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I would like to meet new people and experience places on a different level - something beyond the commercialised pulp offered by tourist industries.
As at Cambridge I live at a college and the rules here are rather unflexible about hosting guests, I can offer my experienve and show some bits of the city and of the uni that are not available to most visitors
Interests
I love meeting people, exchanging ideas, approaches, reflections - this is the most enriching way of gaining knowledge for me and of learning how few things we're supposed to consider 'natural' or 'obvious'.
More in terms of hobbies, I do swimming I love learning languages (both modern and 'dead' ones) and dancing.

Music, Movies, and Books
In terms of films - I really like old ones, like Metropolis, Nosferatu, the Freaks - I find the drawbacks of old technology, like being mute or the black and white convention as a meaningful way of emphasising quite universal character of their stories and ingenious vision in tackling dififcult, sometimes heart-breaking topics.
In terms of books - lots of Latin and Greeks texts, eg. the Bacchae, the Satyricon, and other texts questioning and re-reviewing the human condition - in terms of modern stuff - I really enjoy French literature, eg. Madame Bovary, les Liaisons dangereux, but also things by Kafka and Tchekchov.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Once I've directed a drama performance - we took a futurist, avant-garde text from the 20s, we had a vision, lots of quarrels, finding compromise, problem-solving at the last moment, we had to overcome crisises and moments of doubt - but we made it and it was great - apart from aesthetic pleasure, there was an even greater reward for making an effort - my friendships with people taking part in that became much stronger and we reached a different level of mutual understanding.
Teach, Learn, Share
Thanks to my studies I have some knoweldge on art, its social aspect and relations with philosophy. I always get excited when I visit historical sites or museums. I am good at the 'spot the ancient reference' play.
In term of more practical skills, I can cook a bit, I know quite a few good drinks, I love going out - my best adventures abroad usually took place when most of tourist come back to their hotels.
