About Me

I'm Santi, i'm from a small town in the interior of Argentina and I'm a medic.

I'm currently living in downtown Buenos Aires in a small apartment, near the Obelisco.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have had the incredible experience of being: first, an exchange student, and second, a guest in people's homes in couchsurfing (before i was a user). I really love the way CS helps complete unknowns to connect and know each other and all my experiences have been great. I'd like to be a host and to be a guest all the times i can, and i believe this platform is a really useful tool for those aims.
In my experience hosting people I only have good things to say about it. I've had mostly good experiences and i have nothing but good words to say about my guests, and this only makes me want to keep hosting and surfing!

Interests

I really enjoy learning about countries! Even though it sounds like a cliché, i truly like to inform myself about cultural and historical data of all the countries i learn about. I love listening to music and i try to impose myself new music every year, so i can stop saying "i don't like this". I also try to read a lot, although my university studies prevent me from doing it too much. Of course i love travelling and i hope i can get to know all the continents some day.
And i really like having an enciclopedic knowledge of films. Or at least i try. And i really like cooking (although i'm not very creative!).
This year I haven't done many new things but yesterday I got in touch with woodworking, and I'd love to do something like that.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love tons of films. Of course british, american and european films. Last year i tried to get a knowledge of danish film and ended up really enjoying it! I recommend it a lot.
I hope i had more time so i could see more asian cinema, but until then i can only say it's interesting to me.
Books-wise i like Kundera, Hemingway, Juan José Saer, Borges, Cortázar and Leonardo Padura (the ones i remember right now).
Music i would say pretty much anything but Glenn Branca. Right now i'm really enjoying Peter Gabriel and i've discovered Manic Street Preachers! Reeaaaally cool music. Also The Weeknd!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, i think it depends on what you would consider amazing.
I once rode a racing car at 250 km/h in a local road (but i think it would qualify more like reckless than amazing), but i think the thing that amazed myself the most was achieving to overcome my fear of the unknown and following my (now) girlfriend in Bogotá to be CouchSurfing guests in a pretty rough part of town (against all my instincts). Ended up being a wonderful experience.

In my last journey I ended up spending a week in a flat in Paris looking after a Persian Cat! It was hilarious but also very rewarding hahaha (i did it through CS!)

But maybe one of the really amazing things I've done was just trust people while in France. I was practically homeless and didn't have no money (not recommended!!!) but somehow I ended up getting to know people who helped me even though they had just met me, and helped me get organized and back in track. If someone would have told me some strangers would've helped me so much, I would've just been really suspicious or afraid. But this time they ended up being great friends and people I care for a lot!

Teach, Learn, Share

I really think we all can teach and learn something, and i can teach all the things i find beautiful about my country and the places where i've been happy. I hope i can learn something alike from people.
I think every contact with people who belong not only to other culture, but also to another mindset, makes you richer. Even people who you disagree with have (most of the time) good points to make about things, and i like that better than only talking to people i agree with.
About sharing, i guess the whole CS mentality is what i would like to share. I've had trouble explaining how CS works to people who don't couchsurf because they all tend to get stuck at the "free hosting" part. And i think that's the last part of the experience, but anyway, that's the kind of thought i would like to share.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my house (of course!) and my home. I can share my cooking! And if they are interested my music and my interests.
