About Me

I grew up in Germany, studied there and worked in Investment Banking for a long time. In 2004 I left the industry, began traveling, and started looking inwards. Out of desire and necessity I changed my life drastically.

I have been traveling, living and studying abroad since 2004. A few years ago I gave up my flat and started living without a base anywhere. I am mainly traveling, sometimes interrupted by a few weeks or months living with friends.

My life has improved much due to these changes. I am a positive, content, and happy person with a deep respect for the different forms and interpretations of human life.

I believe in change through awareness and practice. The effects of such a lifestyle have caused many positive developments within me. Living and traveling while being open minded has been a powerful transformational experience.

In daily life I am content, more quiet than loud, easy going, and interested in getting to know people a bit better. I do not smoke, hardly drink any alcohol, and I keep places clean.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am interested to see how people live and what they think; also to share about me, go out and have a good time. I want to feel the life of the country.
Couchsurfing allows for getting to know people in a more personal ways. In countries with high language barriers a private accommodation improves communication.

I have been using hostels, hotels, and AirBB up to now. But I prefer a private couch very much to even the most luxurious hotel.

Interests

Everything related to traveling is interesting; reading books about countries, planning the route or trips, meeting people, understanding how the world ticks.
With the traveling came interest in photography. My trips are well documented in pictures.

In addition, I am interested in Yoga and meditation. I have been practicing for over ten years now. Despite Yoga asanas I do breathing techniques (pranayama). The training has been provided all over the world, but I have spent most time in India. As for meditation I prefer Vipassana Goenka style where I have been doing courses regularly.

And finally, I am still interested in finance and the financial markets.

Music, Movies, and Books

A disobedient girl, by Ru Freeman is my favourite book. In Sri Lanka (and India) servants live sometimes in a dependent relationship with their private employers and are susceptible to all kinds of exploitation. The book deals with this reality in an interesting and emotional way.

I try to listen to local music as often as I can. Currently I like the song 'Milim (Words)' by Aya Korem a lot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am amazed by the opportunities I have in this world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some yoga poses, or pranayama (breathing exercises), or meditation.
Or we can talk about how to best invest money.
You might find it interesting to talk about photography.
Or about foreign countries.
And different ways to travel.

Countries I’ve Lived In

England, Germany, India, United States
