关于我

Hi I'm Scott Lawless, and I was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. After several backpacking trips through Europe during college I realized I wanted to pursue a career and lifestyle that would allow me to continue my passion for travel. I have a degree in International Relations from Louisiana State University. After college I spent some years working at the World Trade Center of New Orleans in which I spent time working with business leaders all over the globe. It was an extremely rewarding experience; however, the travel bug was calling again. Currently I am serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of Georgia and am thoroughly enjoying the experience. If any of you have the chance to visit this beautiful country, it's a must. The people here are some of the warmest and most hospitable I have ever met. I will be here in Georgia until the summer of 2017 and look forward to seeing as much of this area of the world as I can. My future plans include returning to graduate school in the United States with the hopes of one day becoming a Foreign Service Officer. Until then, I'm letting the road decide my fate.

As I've mentioned, I have a passion for travel and have found that the best traveling experiences are made with the locals. I prefer to share the experiences and places with the people that know them the best. Also, being a volunteer doesn't pay very well so I'm trying to limit my travel expenses to the necessities.

I'm not afraid to get out of my comfort zone when meeting new people or facing new experiences. I'm a fun-loving, personable, and adventurous guy always looking to make the next stranger a friend.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

During my time in Istanbul several years ago when the riots erupted in Taksim Square, my friend and I were faced with a situation in which we had to carry a man suffering from asphyxiation to the hospital due to too much smoke inhalation (he had attempted to put out a car fire with a fire extinguisher). We had no idea where we were going, through the thousands of rioters battling tear gas and police standoffs, but we knew this man could possibly die if we didn't help him. We pushed through the crowd making our way until a doctor stopped us to measure the man's vitals. After a minute or so she mentioned this man was in serious trouble and needed a hospital soon. We carried him again, and off we went following the doctor. Fifteen minutes later we arrived to a small facility treating numerous emergency wounds and victims. Several minutes passed as we anxiously awaited until the staff mentioned that the man was breathing again, and he should be fine in time. My friend and I left, relieved. We made our way back to the square in which the riots were dying down as it was nearly dawn by now. While sitting and talking to several locals, some time later a man stood in front of me and shook my hand speaking Turkish. I turned to our local friends who were bilingual and one of them translated: "He wants to thank you for earlier". My eyes widened in disbelief...the man had returned to find his family but had somehow found us first. I've never experienced anything like that feeling before or since.

I am a product of my experiences, as we all are, and I look forward to sharing these with hosts. I believe I come from a particularly hospitable and magical place, and this has shaped the numerous positive experiences I've had while traveling in the past. I'm always in search of the next adventure, and look forward to learning from those that have been where I have yet to go.
