The name's Jon Birchman. "Birchman" in the internationally localized version of me. I'd like to think that people see me as a decent guy with the heart in the right place. Pretty relaxed and happy more often than not, content with life in a general sense. I assume most people around here have a strong love for traveling, so do I.

In 2004, seventeen years old, I went to Florida, USA for a few weeks. My first time flying outside of Sweden by myself, my first transatlantic flight and the first time I ever went anywhere outside of Scandinavia.
Little did I know then that it would be the spark that ignited the fire, the beginning of a life of traveling.

Four absolute necessities for life: oxygen, food, water and music.
I like meeting new people. From anywhere.

I did couchsurfing before I knew there was a verb for it.

In -07 I came to Australia on a Working-Holday visa.
That year (when I didn't do the "working" part of my visa) I traveled around the country by hitchhiking through all the territories and states (apart from Tazmania, hard to get there hitchhiking ;)).

I cannot count how many people I met through my travels, how many people picked me up from the side of the roads and how many people who actually let me stay at their places.

Couchsurfing.

One person said something to me that really stuck. She explained how she believes in the idea of "pass it on".

"Today we help you, we're very happy to have you stay here with us.
Maybe we'll never see each other again, but pass it on - help someone else in the future".

That's why I'm here.
That - and to meet people from all the corners of the planet.
