Overview
About Me
I'm a nurse, but left my current job because of budget cuts. I figured instead of looking for another job immediately, I'd take a gap year. So, I plan to challenge myself by exploring new places and meeting new people by doing some solo travel!
I'm a bit introverted, but hope to get a bit more confident and outgoing as this adventure progresses. I'm excited to figure out what this couchsurfing is about and what's expected of me, and I hope I'll develop or discover new talents that I'll be happy to share with the new friends I meet along the way. And when I have a home again, I will reciprocate the generosity!
I'm also clean and tidy and don't take up too much space!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I really want to meet new people of new cultures and feel like I've truly experienced the places I've been instead of being on the outside looking in.
Couchsurfing is one of the few resources that forces you to make friends and share of yourself while traveling. Airbnb and even hostels would allow me to travel the world, but I could still do it completely alone.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: indie rock, blues, swing... Tom Waits, Chopin, Beirut, Flight of the Conchords
Movies/TV: I love to watch awful B movies, ie Army of Darkness, Sharknado, Cockneys v Zombies, etc. However I also appreciate the blockbusters like Star Wars (not 1-3!), and cultural films. Triplets of Belleville, anything made by Miyazaki (huge Totoro fan!), Brothers Bloom, Jurassic Park
Doctor Who, Dexter, Kanon, Firefly,
As far as books: mostly sci-fi/fantasy and maybe some actual literature now and again. Anything Neil Gaiman, The Power of One, The Martian, Ready Player One
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbed Mt Fuji
Stopped a spontaneous arterial bleed without freaking out myself or the patient
And skydiving
Teach, Learn, Share
I could teach how to medicate a cat without losing your fingers. (I have two medically challenged cats that require meds twice a day. ) (yes, of course they'll be well taken care of while I'm away and, yes, I'll miss them terribly)
I'd love to learn another language and am always interested in new cultures and histories
