Overview
About Me
Teaching Dutch in secondary school, but I try not to use my teacher-voice outside of work. I don't want to use the phrase 'crazy cat lady', however, I have two cats to which I refer to as my children and I'm not even ashamed about it.
Several bad habits that I try to eliminate by making New Years resolutions, such as procrastinating and being hangry. Those are, obviously, compensated by the good qualities, such as being more productive when there's deadline and eating a lot.
Besides trying to cram grammar and vocabulary into children, I love to go out for a drink, tick destinations off my bucket list, spend some quality time with my friends/cats and describe myself on a website.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I fancy a more personal approach when it comes to traveling. Of course we are all fond of the Lonely Planet and sometimes it can be nice to blindly follow a book with a map, but you can't compare this to getting tips from locals, discovering their hot spots or walking around town with them.
Needless to say, this is the other way around as well. I'm no expert concerning my city, but I can show you my number one coffee bar, night shop or park where I pretend to go for a run.

Music, Movies, and Books
Love going to festivals and discovering new bands - waking up all sweaty in the searing heat of the sun is just something futile.
Movies have been replaced by Netflix. House of Cards, Breaking Bad, The Get Down, Rita, Orange Is The New Black, Narcos and so on. All the classics have been binge-watched. I plead guilty.
Books exist to be devoured. I'll read anything I can get my hands on. A few of my favourite authors: Jose Saramago, Harry Mulisch, Arnon Grunberg, Tom Lanoye, Stephen King, Herman Koch. Even poetry - oh yes - I peruse. I have a predilection for Belgian writers such as Herman De Coninck and Hugo Claus.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Unfortunately I don't have any special skills, so my host would have to settle for my company and travel stories :)
