I am from Salt lake City, Utah and recently moved to Plantation Florida for a job as an emergency medicine resident. I have also lived in several countries in Latin America over the years for different reasons and have lived in Hawaii for three years. I love the outdoors and during my free time I like found hiking, mountain biking or surfing.

I love meeting people and getting to know new places which is why I like to travel.

I currently live in a place where I am unable to host.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing because I like to make friends and better see how people live around the world. I see it as one of the best ways to learn about a place.

I also think it is sad when people pass through my city without learning about the culture of its people and our history.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My most interesting travel experience was in the Likouala region of the Republic of the Congo. We hitched a ride with some loggers to where they were bulldozing new road and cutting down giant trees in what had previously been primary rainforest. There we met people from the Aka tribe living a hunter gatherer lifestyle. We hung out with them for a couple of days and stayed in their camp (like couchsurfing). A cool experience but also sad to see their rainforest home cut down and the path being paved for poachers and settlers to come in which will inevitably change their forest lifestyle.

I loved Likouala so much during my visit in 2018 that I returned three years later in 2021 looking for a dinosaur.

Mi experiencia más interesante de mis viajes pasó en la region Likouala de la Republica del Congo. Con unos leñadores fuimos a un lugar donde estaban haciendo nuevos caminos en la selva para cortar arboles gigantes en lo que era selva virgen. Allí conocimos gente del tribu Aka que estaban viviendo una vida de cazador recolector. Pasamos unos días con ellos y nos quedamos en su acampamento (como couchsurfing). Fue una experiencia muy copada pero a la vez muy triste porque los nuevos caminos en la selva que los leñadores estaban haciendo iban permitir que los cazadores furtivos y los pobladores entran al bosque, o sea esos nuevos caminos en la selva iban cambiar el estilo de vida de los Aka para siempre (un estilo de vida que han vivido por miles de años).
