Hi! I am a career non-profit person with a short stop in journalism along the way. I grew up near New York, went to college relatively nearby, and lived in the area for about 6 years. I moved to India, worked at a newspaper there, and then moved to London for grad school. I stayed in the UK for 4 years, and then came back to the U.S. I now live in Washington, DC.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I had heard about Couchsurfing a long time ago and signed up for reasons I can't remember. Then I found out it's not just a way to find a place to stay, but also a way to meet people, learn about different places, and form community. Yay!

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a wide variety of music. Judging from Spotify, I've been most recently fixated on Massive Attack, Portishead, Run the Jewels, Tribe Called Quest (RIP Phife), Outkast, Nas, Madonna, 80s heroines (Belinda Carlisle, Paula Abdul, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson), Tricky.

Movies: V for Vendetta, Dark Knight trilogy, Gosford Park, the Matrix films, high quality foreign films (I recently watched Look Who's Back, which may be the second best Hitler parody I've seen).

A Fine Balance, Autograph Man, Foucault, Marx, Spivak, and others. I am currently reading Capital Volume 3 (allegedly), 1491, a revision of what we know about pre-Columbian indigenous people's societies, and anything and everything I can find on my ethnic history. I'm into genealogy and the genetics of ancient peoples, if that's your sort of thing.
