I grew up in a small town in the surrounding area of Haarlem. Since I was 12, I started exploring the city of Haarlem. The last 5 years I lived at different places and got to know the city very well. I like to walk around the city when the weather is nice, walking to places I've never been before.

From the age of 21 I started travelling to places that interest me. Every summer I try to explore a new country for preferably six weeks. In the beginning I tried a few different continents, but the last years I keep going back to Asia, because of the laid back atmosphere and the people.

I would like to meet new people. Learn to know about other people, their cultures and/or languages. Just having a good time.

Interests

Almost unavoidable on this site I like to travel. To let my curiosity in a free flow and soak up all the stuff I see/hear/smell. When I am at home I like to climb in the local climbing gym, walking (hiking when abroad, The Netherlands are too flat ^^), watching movies/series, meet up with friends. When I'm on the public transport I like to read, whatever interests me. I like History and all linking subjects to it (I taught History for a while). Last summer I did some courses for diving in Thailand that I liked so much, that I'm going to continue to dive when I can.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've got a real broad taste for music, ranging from relaxing jazz to metal and everything in between. The same is true for movies in a sense, again ranging between extremes. I read a lot of books that show me a world I don't really know, or bring me new insights.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last year I went to Scotland alone to hike the West Highland Way. Hiking 160 km with all my gear on my back. Just to set a challenge for myself.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The city I live in and the dunes that are close by. By knowing my city by heart, also in a historical sense. Having tried out a lot of places to eat and drink. My company for the ones who like to meet up.
