关于我

Hello Everyone!
I’m Halil Ibrahim 🙏 I’m a history and geography teacher in Turkey, and also a sociologist. That means I know a lot about my country’s history, geography and society — so if you’re curious about anything, just ask me! The only “tiny” problem is my English… let’s say it’s around level A1.5 😂 But don’t worry, translation apps are my best travel buddies and they never fail.

I was born and raised in Denizli, in the Aegean region of Turkey, very close to Pamukkale. I can give you step-by-step directions through the city and Pamukkale. And yes, I’m a real Aegean guy: relaxed, easy-going and enjoying life. So don’t rush — laugh, talk, have fun and enjoy every moment. 🥰

Over the years I have hosted hundreds of travelers, stayed in dozens of homes, and traveled to many countries. People often ask: “How can you travel so much without speaking English?” And I always answer: “Well, maybe I don’t speak English, but I definitely know how to travel.” 😅 Once a host even joked: “Maybe you pretend you don’t speak English because you don’t want to talk to people?” But the truth is the opposite — I love talking, laughing and sharing stories.

⭐ By the way, I also love visiting the people I have hosted before — in their country, city or even village. If you can host me, I will be very happy. If you cannot, please at least spend some time with me. Of course, I always host without expecting anything in return, but if you host me, share your coffee or meal with me, and answer my questions, that makes me very happy. 🙏

The best moments of my life are when I get lost in the streets of a new city, meet new people and discover their perspectives. For me, traveling is not just about seeing new places, but about opening doors to new worlds. 🌍

If you ever need a travel buddy in Turkey (or somewhere else), just ask me. During my holidays I’d be happy to join you. Whether it’s a deep conversation until sunrise, or a quiet coffee together — I enjoy both equally. ☕✨

And if you ever visit my school, meeting my students and sharing your culture with them would make me so happy.

Finally, here’s my philosophy: in this world we are all just temporary guests. Today we are here, tomorrow maybe not… So my home is your home. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy it. 🙏💫

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I think my love for Couchsurfing comes from my late mother. I was born in Baklan, a small town in Denizli, and I lived there until I went to university. I still visit often. In our village, every Tuesday there’s an open-air fruit and vegetable market. There were never hotels or hostels in the village.

Back in the 1990s, market vendors would come a day early because our village is in the mountains. My mother would always invite them into our home, feed them, and host them — never expecting anything in return. She used to say: “Clear the stones from the road for those who are traveling.”

To me, my mother was like the founder of Couchsurfing 😂. I also love different languages and cultures, but above all, I love helping people. I believe that the more we share our bread, the more it grows.

音乐、电影和书籍

I’m a huge fan of 1970s music, and I have a record collection at home filled with my favorite tracks. Listening to vinyl with a glass of wine is one of my favorite little pleasures.

I also love Turkish films from the 1970s. I’m especially a fan of Türkan Şoray—her movies are timeless, and I never get tired of watching them.

When it comes to books, I have a soft spot for classics. I adore Dostoyevsky and have even visited St. Petersburg twice because of him. Among Turkish authors, some of my favorites are Hasan Ali Toptaş, Yaşar Kemal, Orhan Pamuk, Elif Şafak, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Ahmet Ümit, and Zülfü Livaneli.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

One of the most amazing things I’ve done in my life is growing up in a small village in Denizli and learning from my late mother, who would invite traveling market vendors into our home, feed them, and host them — never expecting anything in return. She always said: ‘Clear the stones from the road for those who are traveling.’

Inspired by her, I’ve hosted hundreds of travelers in my home, stayed in countless homes, and traveled to many countries. My English may not be perfect 😅, but I’ve learned that the best part of traveling is the people you meet, the stories you share, and the friendships you create.
