About Me

Hola! We are Lucia (Spanish) and Hong (Korean) living in Osaka, Japan.

We live in a really really small room where we can NOT host anyone but we can still hanging out!! Hopefully in the future we move to a bigger one and start hosting people!

Lucia is a Ph.D. student (not enough time to meet many people at the moment) but we both love explore diverse cultures, traveling, and gaining insights from different perspectives. We both got a degree in East Asian Studies, Lucía specializing in the Korean language and Hong specializing in Japanese.

Lucia has lived in Spain, Ireland, Korea, and Japan. Hong only Korean and Japan. We both meet in Korea while I was doing an exchange student and got married recently.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During all my experiences traveling going to host families I realize that the only and the best way to learn a language and find out about other cultures and countries, is sharing your travel experience with local people.

Interests

I love sports, traveling, cooking (I'm vegetarian and food is my pasion and I would love to try other international kitchens and I just love trying new kind of flavors).
I love meeting new people and making new friends, learning new things and I'm always trying to find new experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

We love thriller and philological films, and also gore and comedia ones 😅.
Some of my favorites are Truman show, Forgotten, The room, Rec or The Orphan.
I really like any crimal series, programs and documentaries. I also likes to watch documentaries which talks about the reality in some countries (for example el Salvador war, about north korea, poverty in African and undeveloped countries, women role in Asian countries etc)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

About me (Lucia) I went to a summer camp in Switzerland when I was 13 without knowing any french and when I arrived everyone were french. At the start I just wanted to go away from there, but it taught me to don't give up easily because at the end I made such a good friends and I started to learn to interact with other people even though if you don't speak the same language.

Two years later I really wanted to do an exchange, so I started to look for exchange websites (by myself because at the start my parents thought that I was saying it as a joke) and i found a site where I met a girl from Paris. Since that summer (2013) I've been going every year to her house and then she comes to mine. With her and her scout friends I've done many things that I have never imagine I would able to do: We went to corse, to a jamboree with more than 25000 people from all around the world, also we expent 3 days with just 10 euros in Germany asking people to an accommodation, we spend a night sleeping under the starts, and maaaany other stuffs and adventures.

As I'm always trying to find new experiences I said to myself why not go out of the country for an academic year, so again I started to looking for many websites and organization that accepted me for the next academic year, it was June and every companies closed the places, except two but one denied me because of my poor English (yes I know that my english still sucking but I was muuuuuch worst). So I stayed in a lovely host family for a year and I had been studying in an Irish high school even though I didn't know anyone over and neither the language at all. This helped me to be more independent, tolerant and mature, and to know how to interact and communicate with people.

In 2017 received an scholarship to study in Seoul. One girl that I met by this app host me for a month and I was the best experience I have never life. During Covid I received another scholarship to go to Korea again to study even though i wasnt sure to come or not I decided to come and it was the best decision i've ever done. Over there I started to teach Spanish and I felt in love with teach not only my language but also my culture. Once I came back from Korea I started my masters degree and moved to Japan for an internship in a Spanish language school. Right now I’m pursuing a PhD in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching. While I was living in Korea Hong and I fall in love and here we are planning to travel and host people all around the world!

Teach, Learn, Share

We'd be delighted to introduce you to my culture, language, and cuisine. Let me teach you how to cook a Spanish omelette, "tortilla de patatas," paellas, churros, and more! We can also share our experiences living abrod in Japar or Lucia in Ireland, along with some amusing anecdotes from my time in Korea, Japan, and with my French scout group. While we may seem shy initially, we quickly become confident and transform into an outgoing people. (Some describe me as a bit crazy, yet responsible, kind, and generous.)
