I am an inhabitant of a genuine and warm island: Cuba, whose innate characteristicsare hospitality, solidarity and my constant study of a foreign language, English, has let me appreciate communication to support others with cooperation. It’s interesting and helpful to interchange the way Cubans live; its traditions; the places that they visit; culture in general, with travelers all around the world. It also would increase my knowledge about them either.

It’s difficult to explain, considering that Cubans are not allowed to welcome guests in their homes, without a government’s permission. Tourism is this country’s first industry. Hotels can’t cover all our visitor’s expectancies. Cuba has surpassed the quantity of tourists to visit the island in these days, compared with last year, and it continues increasing. State has given Cubans an opportunity to have guests, paying different kinds of tasks through a license, to the government. I am one of them, who has no other options to share in this couch surfing. So,I have a house with permission of the government, Casa Abel. Surfing a couch in Cuba costsmoney. Even though, I understand your community’s principles based on a consensual relation between the host and the guest. Your membership doesn’t reflect a monetary interchange among its members but a compensation. I am aware of what you mean. I expect that my apartment’s rent doesn’t exceed your compensation. I don’t consider that a Cuban monetary compensation would equal a traveler’s expensive expenditure at all, whether we take into account Cuban Hotel’s prices led by the government. Of course, Hotels have a variety and high level of resources. Some of my services include: picking guest up in the airport free of charge, and orientation-adaptation in the city. Many Cubans have traveled to other countries, transmitting the same values of hospitality and solidarity that couchsurfing offers in its main purpose, around the world. Cuban doctors have contributed to other countries’ health and recuperation from pandemics and natural disasters, without considering any cost.It is part of our Cuban culture to seek friendly relationships.
