Hello! (Français au dessous). My name is Michael. I'm from the U.S. I graduated from Duke University in 2019 and then taught English in Dehradun, India for 9 months. In India, I was introduced to the technique of vipassana meditation and participated in a 10-day silent meditation course in Bodhgaya. I was hoping to meditate longer-term in southeast Asia -- then the pandemic sent me home prematurely.

Since then / during quarantine, I went to work on a farm/homestead in rural Vermont (northeast USA) that had an emphasis on "conscious communication" and daily meditations. I am now off to France from October to May to teach English part-time in Lyon.

I love films (any genre, international, arthouse, etc...), books (recently finished Crime and Punishment and The Trial), art in general, and playing the guitar (just started in March). I try to maintain a practice of meditation and feel connected to the people and world around me by living in the present moment :). I love connecting to people and places, which may explain my interest in learning languages and about other cultures (I studied French in college, know a bit of Spanish, and learned Hindi in India).

I'm an easygoing, practical, philosophical, gentle, open-minded and patient person, and I would look forward to connecting to people here! In exchange for a place to squat, I can offer to prepare a vegetarian meal for you, do all the dishes, and or help with any tasks around the house that need to be done :)

Salut! Mon nom est Michael. Je viens des États-Unis. J’ai obtenu mon diplôme de l'Université Duke en 2019, puis j'ai enseigné l'anglais à Dehradun, en Inde pendant 9 mois. En Inde, j'ai été initié à la technique de la méditation vipassana et j'ai participé à un cours de méditation silencieuse de 10 jours à Bodhgaya. J'espérais méditer à plus long terme en Asie du Sud-Est - puis la pandémie m'a renvoyé chez moi prématurément.

Depuis lors / pendant la quarantaine, je suis allé travailler dans une ferme dans le Vermont rural (nord-est des États-Unis) qui mettait l'accent sur la «communication consciente» et les méditations quotidiennes. Je pars maintenant en France d'octobre à mai pour enseigner l'anglais à temps partiel à Lyon.

J'adore les films (tous genres, internationaux, art, etc ...), les livres (récemment terminés Crime and Punishment et The Trial), l'art en général et jouer de la guitare (tout juste commencé en mars). J'essaie de maintenir une pratique de méditation et de me sentir connecté aux gens et au monde qui m'entourent en vivant dans le moment présent :). J'adore me connecter aux gens et aux lieux, ce qui peut expliquer mon intérêt pour l'apprentissage des langues et d'autres cultures (j'ai étudié le français à l'université, je connais un peu l'espagnol et j'ai appris l'hindi en Inde).

Je suis une personne facile à vivre, pratique, philosophique, douce, ouverte d'esprit et patiente, et je serais impatiente de me connecter aux les gens ici sur Couchsurfing. En échange d'un endroit où séjourner, je serais content de préparer un repas végétarien, fais la vaisselle, et ou aide avec la ménage. :)
