I recently moved to Durham in the North-East of England. I'm an historian specialising in the history of science and medicine - I know I'm incredibly fortunate to be able to do what I love, and my job takes up quite a lot of time and mental energy. I'm also involved in local politics (on a grassroots level) and stand firmly on the far left of the political spectrum. Yes, that means I want to see an end to global capitalism, and also to the racist and sexist structures that shape our current society, both here in Europe and elsewhere.

If I wasn't so tired in the evenings I'd be going to gigs, which I used to do a lot but mostly tend to listen to music in my headphones these days.... I'm primarily into alternative rock, and seem to be perpetually stuck in the mid-90s when it comes to music.

When I'm not working, sleeping, or plotting the revolution I spend as much time as I can walking around Durham and the surrounding countryside. I grew up near the sea and the ocean was always my favorite place in the world, but since moving here I've really grown to love the green hills and all the trees.

I haven't travelled at all really, but have moved around quite a bit since leaving my native country (Sweden) in the late 90s. I'm always keen to meet people from anywhere in the world and of any (or no) religious faith, as long as our basic values are largely the same.

I'll be honest, I'm not the most social person and my partying days are long over, but I do love to meet interesting and kind people, and may also be able to provide a spare bed from time to time. Durham is fairly quiet but it's less than 15 mins on the train to Newcastle, which has a decent music scene and lots of other stuff going on.

I'm especially keen to meet people who would let me practice my (terrible) German or Spanish, or who would be willing to help me learn some basic conversations phrases in Arabic.

I'm vegan and so is my home, i.e. if you stay here you would need to agree not to consume any animal products in the flat. This is non-negotiable.
