About Me

Hey there, my name is Johanna and I'm 19 years old. I finished high school last year in summer and have been travelling since then.
Hope I can make a lot of awesome experiences through couchsurfing and meet some nice people :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I mainly signed in for couchsurfing to get away from the hostel-tourist-bubble that is hard to get away from. I feel like it's not so easy to make unique experiences when you automatically follow the same paths as other tourists and most of the times, the places that are not shared or promoted are a hundred times more worth seeing.
The most interesting part for me in in visiting a new country are the people living a different culture, I think you get to know that better through couchsurfing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love pretty much all kinds of music, through all times and genres.
I like to read about science and expeditions the most, my favorite topics are space-, northpole-or trekking expeditions.
I liked the report of Jon Krakauer about the Mt. Everest disaster in 1996 "Into thin air" , it was breathtaking to read about his personal experience up the mountain when it happened.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Over the past months I've experienced a lot of amazing stuff, my favorite memories are always extreme situations I've found myself in, because they shaped me the most and got stuck in my head.
My favorite experiences are probably trekking Thorong La Pass in the Annapurna of Nepal or trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Both were pretty scary experiences that have pushed my borders to the limit but gave me a clearer overall view of basically everything.
I liked going on a motorbike trip in Myanmar with a friend, outside the cities where there were mine fields and military basements, going up to little mountain villages where there's nothing like running water, electricity or connection to the outer world at all.
It was pretty interesting.
It was also interesting living and working in Sicily for a month on a self sufficient farm, picking your food from trees and the garden, cooking over open fire, no running water or electricity, sleeping at the beach for a few nights every now and then just eating cactus fruits and potatoes that we threw into the fire, building everything that would be handy like a shower or shelter for food, a toilet etc. . living like that really cleared my mind.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would like to learn about everything one can be passionate about!
And I'm sure I can share some handy knowledge here and there as well :)
