Well how to start, I'm Maurice, originally from Düsseldorf, a City in the heart of the most densely populated area in West Germany. I moved to Helsinki to continue in research at the University. Friends would describe me as an easygoing person, sometimes more of a quiet person, who always seems to find someone I know wherever I go.

Matching to my studies you can imagine I really like most things nerd and geek such as video games, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, medieval markets and so on and on.

Not so matching to my studies might be my passion for dancing. I started dancing many of the social (waltz...) and latin (chacha, rumba...) dances when I was 17 and have since expanded to Salsa/Bachata/Zouk/Kizomba/WCS.

Whenever there is time left over I also like to explore and enjoy new cuisine, go bouldering or go for a drink with friends.

A little rant will follow now:
Over the course of time I have come to dislike parts of the Couchsurfing community as I have come across a lot of surfers who expect an cultural or philosophical gain from their visitors. In my opinion It's just currency in a different coat, so how is it different from offering ones own place as an AirBnB. There is a kind of arrogance in declining someone in need because they don't bring the cultural gain that one expects that I do Not wish to Support.
The value of why I admired Couchsurfing is that people were Just trying to help someone in need out, without expecting a return. And this is also why I still support this idea.
If you are in need of a place to stay, you are very welcome to come. Everything else is a bonus on top.

In that regard I recognize my (maybe small) hypocrisy in expecting at least a little effort in reading my profile. If you send me a request please mention anything from this profile that has caught your attention. Please don't try any elaborate copy paste messages.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

During a trip I talked to someone who was currently searching for a few nights to stay and she showed me how this is a pretty nice site to get to know new people while visiting other cities.
I found the idea quite interesting and thought of trying it out.

My most favored genres are Sci-fi and fantasy, so I absolutely love the Star Wars Saga (Not the new trilogy please). Bookwise my favorite (next to star wars books) is probably "The Secret of Askir". It is written by a german author so I'm not sure whether there exists a translated version in english.

Last minute volunteer at a Salsa-Festival in Amsterdam. Two days before the festival started I was asked if I had time the weekend. Packed my things and took the next opportunity to Amsterdam. Had a blast dancing and working there.
