About Me

We live near Kolkata Airport. I have recently retired under VRS from the post of Assistant Manager (Finance) from a Power Sector organisation under Ministry of Power, Govt of India. During my service period of almost 35 years, we couldn't manage to travel outside India, but as we are free now, we can try to cover as much of the world as we possibly can. We will also travel to some places in India, that are still uncovered.

We are a rationalist, atheist and non-vegetarian family. You can call us Carnivores, having no religious restrictions or beliefs. We would eat any local cuisine that we find healthy, tasty and hygienic. So, we won't face any diet related issues anywhere in the world. This, we think, is a major plus point with us.

As our only son is grown up, married and well settled Sports Journalist and Daughter in law from Hospitality Sector, both having extremely hectic schedule, we will be travelling as a couple only. However, if during the planning stages of our visits, they somehow manage to make themselves available to join us (which is highly unlikely), we will take them along.

We are looking forward to a great Couchsurfing experience.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe that, by birth, we all are citizens of this planet. I don't find any rationale behind the concept of confining humans to artificially drawn boundaries on this planet - called countries. Ideally, I would like to visit all the places on this planet, make new friends and know about their culture, cuisine, history and places of interest.

Interests

I am interested in the entire planet, except visiting religious places and getting involved in religious activities.

Music, Movies, and Books

Bollywood music, Movies based on true historic events, Audio Books (Whatever interests me on Kuku FM).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The one amazing thing I have seen is by pure luck. It happened during my childhood.

I was barely 10 years old, when I went to Digha Sea Beach on a family bus trip. We reached the beach before sunrise. It was still dark. Suddenly, we noticed the sun inside the sea. No, it was not a reflection of the sun. The sun was not there on the horizon yet. It was inside the sea, in its full morning glory. It was so unbelievable. It was like seeing the sunrise before the sunrise and like the sun was rising from the depths of the sea.

Soon the entire beach was filled with magical lights with constantly changing colours. It was as if we were in the midst of some magical show of lights. The magnificent rainbow lights that kept dancing not only through the sea and sky, but also the entire sea beach and it's surroundings, were so mesmerizing that despite my best efforts, I have never been able to convey to others what we actually saw and the kind of sensations and feelings I went through during those moments of my life. The sheer recall of that childhood memory still gives me goosebumps.

Later I came to know from experts that It happens due to the curvature of the earth. When the sun is still below the horizon, it's lights travel through the water, to reach our eyes, creating an illusion of the sun being inside the water. But there are many other conditions too, that need to be satisfied for this illusion to take place. This was a rarest of rare sunrise event, that luckily happened that day, as all those conditions got satisfied at once. It's like hitting a jackpot. I think It was extremely lucky that I just happened to be at the right place, at the right time to see this marvel of mother nature.

Later, I visited various sea beaches many times in my life, but couldn't see a repeat till date. Honestly speaking, I could never enjoy any other sunrise or sunset ever after. While I see people seeing sunrises, taking pics and shooting videos, I don't even feel like having a look, leave alone filming it. No photograph or video can ever be better than the one stored in my memories.

Now I am 59, but I don't think, I will ever get a chance to see it again. That splendor of natural light was nature's best gift to me and it will remain stored in my heartfelt memories till the last breath of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe knowledge is a journey, not a destination. I can teach whatever little I may have learnt in life, Learn all that I may still need to learn from others, Share all my knowledge and wisdom, that may be beneficial to others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Homely atmosphere and homely food. We will try to give them our maximum company. If they want, we can share our personal car also for local outings. Will try to make them feel at home.
