About Me

Hello :)

my name is Linus and I was born and raised in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Even though I love my home city, I am very keen on experiencing other cultures in other places. I am particularly interested in English-speaking countries since I spent a lot of time trying to become proficient in the English language and hope to improve my skills talking to actual native speakers.
Partly to improve myself and partly to bridge the year, I gave myself between finishing high school and beginning to study, I became a tutor. I teach English and Mathematics to high schoolers and enjoy doing it.
Do you know Jiu-Jitsu? Not many people do. It is a martial art I practice and compete in. I would like to train in some of the high-level gyms New York has to offer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am here to get to know interesting people from New York City, where I want to travel to in August. I love being around open-minded, honest and genuine people that can offer an interesting perspective on life.
Since I would like to stay at your place it's only fair that I offer you somewhere to stay in Berlin. I live right in the centre near Kreuzberg, which is maybe the most vivid place in the city. You can use a mattress in my room.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books
I love reading contemporary English and American writers, such as Rushdie or Boyle but really like good literature in general. I am also occasionally challenging myself with classic literature (currently reading Dostojewski).

Music
I really listen to any music from hip hop (favorite piece: Lose Yourself by Eminem) to classic (Die Moldau by Bedrock Smetana).

Movies
I prefer comedy over action movies and like to watch documentaries as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last summer I travelled Morocco with a group of friends, visiting all major cities, the Atlas Mountains and the desert. Experiencing the Moroccan culture was an amazing but also humbling experience. To see the hospitality and generosity with which we were treated by people with way worse financial situations than we were in made me question our behavior at home and altered my perspective on life.

I guess the most impressive thing I've done is becoming European Champion in Jiu-Jitsu last April. I worked very hard for it and winning meant so much relief for me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will share my home with you if you decide to travel to Berlin one day as well as a typical German guest gift when I visit you, I will share my interests and experience with you.
And of course, my very own perspective on life :)
