About Me
My Instagram: @its.sonya.ua
Born in Ukraine, but grew up in New York. I moved to the U.S. at 14 and have called NYC home ever since, and that’s probably where I learned to think fast, walk even faster, and hold on tight to my origins :) I just graduated law school and it’s time to explore the world I’ve been dreaming about since I was a kid and think outside the box.
I love meaningful conversations, local food spots, and discovering the beauty (and humor) in everyday moments. In my free time, I love skiing, playing tennis just for fun, and exploring new places especially if there’s a nice view or a cozy café involved. Lately I’ve been getting back into piano and re-learning French - both were a big part of my childhood, but I dropped them along the way. Now that life’s a little less hectic, I’m finding my way back to the things that make me feel like me.
I’m always excited to meet new people, hear your story, and find connection in unexpected places.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing because I love meeting people who see travel as more than just sightseeing. For me, the most memorable parts of any trip are the conversations, the shared meals, the little cultural things you’d never get from a guidebook. I’ve lived between countries since I was a teenager, so connecting with people from different backgrounds feels natural and honestly, kind of essential.

Music, Movies, and Books
When it comes to music, I’m all over the place in the best way: Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys, Jungle, Swedish House Mafia, Cigarettes After Sex, ABBA, Boney M… and then I can listen to opera, or to hip hop, depends on the mood, the city, or the hour. I really cannot name a specific kind of music I like because I like everything.
As for books, I’ll never stop loving Joan Didion. I’m drawn to sharp, emotionally honest writing of a woman - memoir, essays, fiction that feels like someone is finally saying the quiet part out loud
