One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Raising my three kids
Teach, Learn, Share
I want to share two poems my friend wrote for me
My Friend
thin fingers of twisted wood cast grim shadows
against the grey sky, once green, all now
mottled, pitted, stretched in random supplication
bowed and splayed, they grasp at a leaf
drifting on an autumn breeze,
its fragile, butterfly-like dance weaves through
the tangled bones that reach like tentacles of
some forest monster seeking to hold and crush
the swirling, twirling her but she evades them
with no skill but the wind's whim, and she
sometimes glances behind to the far distance
from whence she came, and there, fertile greens
and pinks and colours of all hue hold sway,
and from them a deep throb of love and meaning
and their connecting strands encompass her heart
in memory and yearning for the distant past as
the wind drives her forward and away, and
though her dismay threatens to strangle
her, yet her dance and free spirit blossoms, and
grows, and new meaning finds purchase
so that her loss balances against her gain, and
such is the dance, the sad, beautiful dance
She lives inside a poem
I know a girl who walks in the rain; she lives inside a poem
and the dreams she dreams within her intricate home
are dreams of love of death of life and sadness,
and of fleeting glimpses of beauty and happiness
of valour and honour, of unrequited passion, these
the dreams she dreams within her poetic mansion
her soul is bound in rhythms of rhyme, and deep within
bursts a fountain, from which does clear Truth spring
that crystal flow it nourishes all endeavours of men
and quenches the thirst of Gods, to whom, we bow and pray
