My name is Cécile, I am a 32-year-old French woman who is fulfilling her dream of backpacking to the other side of the world.

I am originally from Burgundy, France's wine and gastronomy region. I now live in Lille, in northern France, with my partner Nicolas and our two adorable cats, Panda and Mocha.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My partner Nicolas and I are currently backpacking through South America, traveling without flying.

At the beginning of the year, we visited Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile. After a break of a few months, we're back in South America to discover new countries, but also, and above all, new people. We firmly believe that to truly know and understand a country, you have to connect with the people who live there.

At the beggining of the year, we had some wonderful encounters, but we didn't dare try couchsurfing. This time, we want to give it a go. :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During our trip to Finland, we had the chance to meet a Sami reindeer herder at her home in Inari.

It was a very powerful encounter. We learned about the history of the Sami people, Europe's last indigenous people, their culture, and their philosophy of life.

We also discussed the present with her: her daily life in modern Finland, preserving and passing on Sami culture to her children, and climate change, which is affecting her reindeer herding business.

It was just as good, if not better, than seeing the Northern Lights! ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Nicolas and I are curious and love discovering new places, new cultures, and new people.

We firmly believe that you can't truly get to know a country without getting to know and understand the people who live there.

That's why we love talking to the people we meet, listening to them tell us about their daily lives, their worries, and their dreams, and sharing ours with them in return.
