About Me

We’re Michael and Tobi, two students at the University of Tokyo traveling around Japan this summer on a budget. We’re open-minded, curious, and always looking to connect with people from different backgrounds. Both of us have lived in several countries, so cultural exchange is something we really value. We’re respectful, easygoing guests who enjoy meeting people, learning new things, and contributing however we can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To connect with people, learn from locals, and see the real side of Japan beyond tourist spots. Couchsurfing is the best way to do that—and we love the idea of giving back to the community, not just passing through.

Interests

Michael: architecture, art, climbing, and photography.
Tobi: music, jiu-jitsu, food culture, and volleyball.
Both of us are into sports—surfing, hiking, volleyball, skiing—and anything that gets us moving outdoors.

Music, Movies, and Books

Tobi is really into music and always has great songs to share (or playlists to build). Michael’s into architecture, art, and creative documentaries. We both appreciate stories—whether in books, films, or conversations over dinner.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived, studied, and adapted in multiple countries: Austria, Netherlands, France, USA, and Germany – each one shaping us in different ways. Now we’re exploring Japan in depth, and it’s already been an unforgettable ride.

Teach, Learn, Share

We’re happy to share stories, perspectives, and a few skills: Tobi trains jiu-jitsu and can teach some basics. Michael enjoys sketching and design-related stuff. We’re also decent cooks (especially when it comes to making something simple but tasty), and always down to help out with anything at home.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good vibes, fun conversations, help in the kitchen, and good company. We’re flexible and grateful for any place to crash, and always clean and respectful. If you’re into surfing, jiu-jitsu, or hiking, we’d love to join or share tips too.
