About Me

Hello, my name is Tomash. I am a multidisciplinary artist with experience in a wide range of art forms:
I have been painting for as long as I can remember. I am a graduate of an arts program at a special high school for the arts in the heart of Tel Aviv. In addition, I graduated from a film program and directed three short films. At this stage of my life, I am mainly focused on music—I completed my first year at a higher-level jazz school called Internal Compass, and I primarily specialize in songwriting and composition.

I see myself (though it’s always difficult and necessary to describe oneself) as a person drawn to the deeper layers of life, and to authentic people who are willing to look at them with curiosity and openness to learning. I enjoy analyzing and discussing whatever life brings to our hearts and always curious to see what does the future holds for me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting characters and exploring unfamiliar places—it always fills my mind with richness, excitement, and inspiration. For me, traveling in a new place is an art form like any other, and I find that doing it alongside a local friend greatly increases the chances of having truly authentic sense of where you are, rather than just checking off the attractions that someone decided are the only ones worth seeing.

Music, Movies, and Books

A great question! My favorite film is A Clockwork Orange by Kubrick. Other favorites include Oldboy, American Beauty, Beau Is Afraid, Requiem for a Dream, Pulp Fiction, Trainspotting, and many, many more.
My favorite musician is Nick Drake—I admire everything he ever created. I listen to and love a very wide range of music, from punk to shoegaze, jazz, blues, folk, indie, and everything in between. Other artists I truly admire include Lou Reed, Tim Buckley, Elliott Smith, Neil Young, Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, the Grateful Dead, and the list goes on and on.
When it comes to books, I get even more excited: here are just a few that have deeply influenced me—The Art of Loving, The Alchemist, Moon Palace and The Invention of Solitude by Paul Auster, Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, Peter Camenzind by Hermann Hesse, and many more.
When it comes to art in general, I can never stop talking. There is simply no end to it—and I stay open and curious to everything that reaches my ears and truly grabs me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I’ve done was probably listening to my inner urge to be heard—getting up on stage at an open-mic night in some laid-back bar when I was 16, and playing one of my own songs. It was an awkward, clumsy moment, but also one filled with meaning that has only grown stronger over the years, and today I do it weekly, thanks to that kid whose knees were shaking.

Teach, Learn, Share

As I mentioned, I specialize in painting and all forms of writing—poetry, storytelling, journaling, reflective pieces, or screenwriting. I also focus on songwriting and lyric writing. I’m happy to help, discuss, teach, or share my art at any time!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’d be happy to play music, sing, or assist in any artistic process. Additionally, I truly enjoy leaving one of my paintings as a host gift, and sometimes I even like to paint the host or a particular element of their home that caught my interest.
