Hi! I’m Fernando, though most people call me Niano. I’m from Salamanca, Spain, a data scientist, and a traveller slowly making my way into the digital nomad life. I try to move as light as I can, although between photography gear and remote work I often end up carrying more than planned. Even so, curiosity always weighs less than the backpack.

I spent a good stretch travelling across South America with a friend while using Couchsurfing, and that experience hooked me completely. Now I’ve decided to start my own profile and keep meeting amazing people along the way. I travel to understand how people actually live: markets full of unfamiliar smells, little streets far from the tourist path, live music, and those conversations that start casually and end up making your whole day. I love photography—capturing light, spontaneous gestures, and those fleeting moments you miss if you blink. If you're up for it, I'm always happy to share ideas, tips, or go explore for hidden corners.

On Couchsurfing I look for natural, easygoing connections: cooking something simple together, swapping playlists, wandering around without rushing, talking about travel, culture, the gym, festivals (I go to quite a few), or how tech and nomad life can coexist without turning everything chaotic.

As a guest, I’m respectful, tidy, and independent: I adapt easily, help out, and keep my stuff under control. As a host (when I’m in Spain), I enjoy showing local spots and planning simple but meaningful experiences.

I believe Couchsurfing works best when we share honest, unpretentious moments—whether that’s a conversation, a meal, or a walk. If that resonates with you, I’d be happy to cross paths.

Hola, soy Fernando, aunque la mayoría me llama Niano. Soy de Salamanca, España, data scientist y viajero en proceso nómada digital. Intento moverme tan ligero como pueda, aunque entre la fotografía y el trabajo a veces termino cargando más de lo que me gustaría. Aun así, la curiosidad siempre pesa menos que la mochila.

Durante un tiempo estuve viajando por Sudamérica con una amiga mientras usábamos Couchsurfing, y esa experiencia me enganchó por completo. Ahora me he animado a crear mi propio perfil y seguir compartiendo camino con más gente increíble. Viajo para entender cómo vive la gente en cada lugar: mercados donde todo huele distinto, calles que no salen en Google, música en directo, charlas que empiezan sin plan y terminan siendo lo mejor del día. Me encanta la fotografía, especialmente capturar luces, gestos espontáneos y esos momentos que desaparecen si parpadeas. Si te apetece, siempre puedo compartir trucos, ideas o simplemente salir a buscar rincones bonitos.

En Couchsurfing busco conexiones naturales: cocinar algo sencillo juntos, intercambiar playlists, caminar sin prisa, hablar de viajes, cultura, gimnasio, festivales (voy a unos cuantos cada año) o de cómo la tecnología y la vida nómada se mezclan sin que todo se vuelva caótico.

Como invitado soy respetuoso, ordenado y autónomo: me adapto, ayudo y mantengo mis cosas bajo control. Como anfitrión (cuando estoy en España) disfruto enseñando mis rincones favoritos y preparando planes que combinan lo cotidiano con algo un poco diferente.

Creo que Couchsurfing funciona cuando ambos compartimos un rato genuino, sin pretensiones: una conversación, una comida, una caminata. Si encaja contigo, será un gusto coincidir.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started using Couchsurfing while travelling through South America with a friend, and those stays quickly became some of the most meaningful moments of the trip. People welcomed us into their homes and their daily lives, and that left a real mark on me.

I’m not here just to save money on accommodation. I’m here because I want to see how people truly live, share normal days, and have the kind of conversations you don’t find in hostel lobbies. For me, Couchsurfing is about trust, kindness and curiosity all travelling together.

Empecé a usar Couchsurfing viajando por Sudamérica con una amiga, y muchas de esas estancias se convirtieron en momentos muy significativos del viaje. La gente nos abrió sus casas y su vida diaria, y eso me dejó huella.

No estoy aquí solo para ahorrar en alojamiento. Estoy aquí para ver cómo vive realmente la gente, compartir días normales y tener esas conversaciones que no aparecen en la recepción de un hostel. Para mí, Couchsurfing va de confianza, buena energía y curiosidad viajando juntas.

Interests

I enjoy being on the move, but not in a rush. I like wandering through cities, choosing the small street instead of the main one, and seeing where it leads: a market, a viewpoint, a bar with someone singing live. I’m happy both in busy cities and in quieter places where you can actually hear your own thoughts.

The gym and training help me keep some structure while travelling, and I balance that with good food, a beer now and then, and plenty of walking. I’m also very interested in stories—how people ended up where they are, the choices they made, and the places that changed them.

Me gusta moverme, pero sin ir con prisa. Disfruto de recorrer las ciudades eligiendo la calle pequeña en vez de la principal y viendo adónde lleva: un mercado, un mirador, un bar con alguien cantando en directo. Estoy a gusto tanto en ciudades llenas de vida como en sitios tranquilos donde se puede pensar un poco.

El gimnasio y el entrenamiento me dan algo de estructura mientras viajo, y lo compenso con buena comida, alguna birra de vez en cuando y muchos kilómetros andando. También me interesan mucho las historias: cómo ha llegado la gente hasta donde está, las decisiones que han tomado y los lugares que les han cambiado.

Music, Movies, and Books

English
Music: I’m into rock, indie, alternative and some electronic stuff. I love live music and small concerts, and I go to several festivals every year, so I’m always happy to swap bands and playlists.

Books: I’m really into sci-fi. Philip K. Dick is a big reference for me, and I read quite a lot of Haruki Murakami—those strange characters, the quiet loneliness, the way something slightly surreal sneaks into everyday life.

Movies/series: I like stories that stay with you afterwards, but I’m just as happy with a chill movie night, sharing whatever each of us would never admit is their “guilty pleasure” film.

Música: Me gustan el rock, el indie, lo alternativo y algo de electrónica. Me encanta la música en directo y los conciertos pequeños, y suelo ir a varios festivales cada año, así que siempre estoy abierto a intercambiar grupos y playlists.

Libros: Me gusta mucho la ciencia ficción. Philip K. Dick es un referente para mí, y también leo bastante a Haruki Murakami: esos personajes raros, la soledad silenciosa, la forma en la que algo un poco surreal se cuela en la vida cotidiana.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most exciting thing I’ve done is actually happening right now: I’m travelling around the world. For a long time it felt like one of those ideas you talk about over beers but never do. Little by little it stopped being a distant plan and turned into flights, backpacks, new countries and a very real “I’m really doing this”.

Every new place reminds me that this crazy decision was worth it.

Lo más apasionante que he hecho está pasando ahora mismo: estoy dando la vuelta al mundo. Durante mucho tiempo fue una de esas ideas que se hablan entre cervezas pero nunca se hacen. Poco a poco dejó de ser un plan lejano y se convirtió en vuelos, mochilas, países nuevos y un “lo estoy haciendo de verdad”.

Cada sitio nuevo me recuerda que esta locura ha merecido la pena.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Spanish, share tips about travelling long-term and staying (more or less) sane, help with basic workout ideas, and show you a few simple photography tricks—how to use light, find interesting angles, or take better photos even with a phone. If you’re curious about data science or remote work, I’m happy to explain what I do in a simple way.

I’d love to learn how life really works where you live: your routines, your slang, your comfort food, and the spots you’d show a close friend visiting for the first time.
And if you know anything about photography, I’m always happy to learn something new.

What I enjoy sharing most is time: walks, stories, music, and that feeling that for a few hours we’re not strangers anymore.

Puedo enseñar español, compartir trucos sobre cómo viajar a largo plazo y seguir (más o menos) cuerdo, darte ideas básicas de entrenamiento y mostrarte algunos consejos sencillos de fotografía: cómo usar la luz, buscar ángulos interesantes o sacar mejores fotos incluso con el móvil. Si te da curiosidad el trabajo remoto o la ciencia de datos, puedo contarte lo que hago de forma sencilla.

Me gustaría aprender cómo funciona de verdad la vida donde vives: tus rutinas, tus expresiones, tu comida de consuelo y esos lugares que enseñarías a un buen amigo que viene por primera vez.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer a calm, respectful presence and a house guest who doesn’t create extra work: I clean up after myself, adapt to your routines, and treat your home with the same care I’d want in mine.

I enjoy cooking simple dishes and experimenting with whatever we find in the kitchen, sharing stories from the road, and listening to yours. I’m good company for wandering around your neighbourhood, checking out a local bar, or just staying in with music and conversation.
