About Me
Hello everyone,
I hope you're all doing well. My name is Yakuphan Yılmaz. I live in Istanbul.
In January 2026, I traveled solo to Hurghada, Egypt. I enjoy independent travel and discovering new cultures on my own. I plan to list my future journeys in this section as I continue exploring new places.
My official ID shows my birth date about six months younger than my actual age; in practice, I will turn 23 this March.
I graduated from Bursa Technical University, Department of Mathematics, as the top-ranked student. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics.
Alongside my academic studies, I enjoy working on interdisciplinary projects. For my undergraduate thesis, I independently developed a project called MATMOSFER, a machine learning–based weather forecasting system designed specifically for the city of Bursa. I am currently advancing this work toward an international research paper. This project has also been submitted to TÜBİTAK, Turkey’s national scientific research council, and is now under scientific evaluation.
Outside academia, I have a strong passion for amateur photography. In my first year at university, I won third place in a photography competition. I also published a book at the age of 18 about the natural disaster history of Istanbul.
I enjoy meeting new people, listening to different life stories, and sharing meaningful conversations. For me, Couchsurfing is not just about accommodation, but about connection, cultural exchange, and shared experiences.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
