About Me
Hello! I'm Stephany Pinho, a Brazilian who lived a good part of her life on the northeastern coast of Brazil! I have a degree in journalism and am currently pursuing a master's degree in Bioethics at the University of Brasília (UnB).
Before returning to university for my postgraduate studies, I worked for many years in the financial sector. I've been an activist in the environmental movement since I was 14! Currently, I'm researching opportunities for productive inclusion for small rural producers in the context of the regulation of the carbon credit market in my country.
I lived alone for many years, including during the pandemic. Currently, I'm dedicating myself to volunteering and travel experiences that allow me to connect with other people and cultures!
Having been solely responsible for the upkeep of my home for the past few years, I'm quite sensitive to the needs of a household. You can count on me for cleaning and cooking! I completed 5 years of psychoanalysis and have recognized communication and conflict mediation skills.
I am empathetic and have a good sense of humor. Perhaps my most annoying trait is the need to follow a routine and have a limited social life, which sometimes requires me to spend time alone with myself, at home, on the street, or in libraries!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm a young person from a low-income background, right?! I belong to a generation in Brazil that has achieved a certain level of social mobility through higher education, but that doesn't necessarily mean economic advancement.
Traveling and experiencing other cultures is still something largely reserved for upper-middle-class people in my country. For this reason, I believe this platform can be useful in connecting me with people who might like my profile and eventually want to spend time with me! I'll certainly be happy to reciprocate the support!
Music, Movies, and Books
My city (São Luís do Maranhão) is known as "The Brazilian Jamaica," so you can imagine that I really like reggae, ska, and dub! I also really like electronic music, techno parties, industrial, downtempo, and things of that genre!
I might also find myself listening to Enya, Yasmine Handam (my muse), Björk, Eartheater, and Sevdaliza. And of course: the wonderful Brazilian music and its different genres!
I watch art films and always forget the names (of the films and the directors). Currently I'm reading many academic books by authors who work in ecology, political philosophy, and aesthetics, but I would love it if you could pull me out of these vortices!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I climbed Nevado de Toluca, a volcano called Xinantecatl, in Mexico. I was afraid my past as an asthmatic would haunt me during this adventure, but I managed to reach the top and return safe and sound!
Some of the most incredible things I saw were a stunningly blue lagoon in the Amazon and President Lula's inauguration ceremony after defeating Bolsonaro in the last election!
Teach, Learn, Share
I want to learn English and I'm willing to teach a lot of what I know! I believe I can impart skills in time management, self-care, and a passion for reading and writing!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can offer consistent support in maintaining the home, healthy, balanced and stimulating companionship, and the joy that emanates from a grateful heart!
