About Me
Hi! I'm Nil, 32 years old, from Istanbul. I studied opera at the conservatory and I am a voice specialist. I am currently working on a podcast project focused on storytelling and sound design. I’ve been a vegetarian for 15 years and straight edge (I was vegan for five of those years). I have two furry friends, Bilbo the dog and Göbüş the cat. I'm an introvert and might be a bit quiet because of the language barrier. So if you're looking for a "wild" guest who can keep up with you, I'm probably not the one :) My English is still a bit weak, but I’d love to practice with a patient host while exploring the surroundings together.
Note: I only stay with female hosts. This is a personal boundary related to my lifestyle. Thank you! 🙏🏻
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
On this first solo trip of mine, I prefer the warmth of a home and genuine human connections over the anonymity of a tourist hotel. I don't just want to visit places; I want to experience the rhythm of life on the island and build friendships with people from all over the world. Sharing stories and cultures with my hosts is the most meaningful way for me to step out of my bubble and practice my English in a natural way.
Interests
I spent part of my childhood in Bodrum, surrounded by nature. My mother and I used to collect edible wild mushrooms and plants and cook with them, which sparked a deep passion for fungi and herbalism in me. I’ve continued learning on my own ever since.
My family loved camping, especially in southern Turkey, and growing up by the sea gave me a deep connection to it — I can snorkel for hours without getting bored.
I love cooking and creating art with my hands. Pottery, crochet and jewelry design (especially wire wrapping and macramé) are very meditative for me and I love creating unique pieces from natural materials.
Although I love dedicating time to my hobbies, I’m not someone who lives only for pleasure. Thinking and talking about philosophical ideas fulfills me the most, especially moral philosophy. But I probably won’t be able to do much of that on this trip because of the language barrier :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Buying a ticket to a country far from home for my first solo trip, despite my fear of flying and my weak English :)
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am a respectful and tidy guest. I can also guide basic voice and breath exercises for wellness, prepare delicious vegetarian/vegan Turkish meals and teach how to create unique jewelry using natural materials.
