About Me

ABOUT ME

I practise Vipassana meditation. Have done thousands of hours of volunteer work, started community iniatives and youth action teams, facilitated workshops on a variety of topics, was in sychronised swimming for 10 years, lifeguarding for 5, worked dozens of different jobs, most recently Head Lifeguard for Bible camp and before that night shift at a big hostel in BC. Challenging the City of Victoria's prejdiced bylaws via some awesome pro bono lawyers standing up for the rights of homeless and impovershed people, love attending and speaking at conferences and symposiums, and probably some more but I'm just babbling now so I'll stop.

PHILOSOPHY

My favourite part of every day is going to bed, my second favourite part is waking up. I wake up, realise that I'm breathing and think sweet! I win again! I basically have spent my life turning all my dreams into reality and living them. So far, it's been brilliant. My four main rules in life are safety, choice, respect and fun.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

It seems like the beginning of a long and beautiful relationship...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been home-free off and on since I was sixteen, so I have a billion and one couchsurfing and pirate camping stories. I love it, and whenever I do have a homebase, there are always others sharing and surfing the space. I love sleeping outside.

Interests

My passions are people, animals and nature, not necessarily in that order. I really love breathing, eating and sleeping, and beyond that I will try anything once! Some favourites would be yoga, meditation, cycling, meeting new people, diversity, activism, positive social change, reading, writing, learning, sharing, teaching, connecting, volunteering, swimming, camping, hiking, dancing, singing, jamming, dumpster diving and more!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Lovecraft, Adams, Castenada, Clive Barker everything, then some power vs. force by david hawkins, the tao of physics, and any others that cross my path. Musical Favourites include Hendrix, the Doors, Zeppelin, Floyd, primus, pixies, bob marley, but I really have enjoyed every single song I've heard since I gave away my entire collection! Movies are fun, I recently seen Snakes on a Plane, which delivered. They are a social thing for me, and I enjoy everything from b horror/zombie/slasher fix to deep, thought provoking political documentaries, and everything in between. Except for the romantic comedies. I just can't handle them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was in a zombie movie once which turned into an epic drunken all night zombie shanty, the psychedelic, psychotic, smoking cycling sherpa circus has been pretty amazing, and I will never forget working at a zoo for 3 years.

Teach, Learn, Share

I faclitate workshops on inclusive leadership skills, respect, violence, healthy relationships, date rape, how to be an effective facilitator, how to start a youth action team/community iniative, and sustainability. I also teach swimming lessons and coach synchronised swimming. I am very knowledgable about poverty, homelessness and activism in North America, and am heading South to see what it's like in other countries and to try and learn some more creative, inclusive, sustainable solutions. I love trade, am part of some shared knowledge communities and think information should be free. A big Do-It-Yourselfer, I am currently working on learning bike mechanics and repair, mushroom picking, wilderness survival, surfing, organic gardening, cello, juggling, harmonica and spanish.
