About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm in pursuit of Happiness... for both myself and others

ABOUT ME

On the one side I'm a community artist and activist, working in the hip hop scene as a bgirl (breakdancer) and promoter.

On the other I'm an internationally focused project manager working with international organisations towards more equitable global integration and cooperation.

I'm a dancer, a capoerista, a traveler, an adventurer;
I'm socially conscious, politically active and environmentally aware. And... and... and... And! I really don't think it's possible to summarize people in little boxes like this! :)

I'm currently pursuing an MPH in Health Promotion and Community Development (Global Stream) at the University of Toronto and have an HBA in Peace and Conflict / Ibero-American Studies too. I've spent the last few years working in international affairs with parliamentarians from across the Americas (North, South and Central America, as well as the Caribbean) and have also been running two yearly hip hop festivals on the side.

I live with my partner, Kenji, who is an artist (painter), graphic designer and illustrator. He's also a closet science, geography and politics geek. We're very environmentally conscious and believe in the importance of social justice. We've also just created a container garden on our roof and are loving the process of slowing down, digging in the dirt, and growing our own fruits n' veggies!

To know a little more, send me a message. Hopefully one day we can meet!

PHILOSOPHY

Everything in moderation,
Including moderation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am happy to have people stay at our house from time to time (we both work from home, so it depends what our schedules are like) and am looking to meet others, either by hosting, visiting or just going out for a coffee or a drink. I'm also happy to give advice or suggestions about places I've lived or places I've been.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted my first couchsurfer and stayed on my first couch just recently and both were really great experiences! I've also got a few friends who are on here, and they've all had good things to say about the site :)

Hosted on my couch:
May 2009 - Hamid
Sept 2009 - Ana Maria

Surfed on their couch:
June 2009 - Tom and Kate (Washington, DC)
Sept. 2010 - Gillian (Fredricton, NB)

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't even know where to begin with this, but here are a few:
Books - One Hundred Years of Solitude, Steppenwolf, the Lord of the Rings (and of course the Hobbit), Chung Kwo, the Handmaid's Tale, the People's Guide to Mexico, Yes Yes Y'All, Surviving the Extremes, the City of Joy...

Movies - the Dark Crystal, the Fifth Element, anything by Myazaki, the City of God (Ciudade de Deus), Clueless, Strictly Ballroom, Save the Last Dance, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Star Wars (original trilogy)...

TV - I don't have TV, but a few shows I like to watch online are Planet Earth (or almost anything by David Attenborough), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, So You Think You Can Dance, True Blood, The Last Airbender and Samurai Champloo.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just a few...

Traveled across Rio in the middle of the night to hit up an amazing hip hop jam under an aqueduct and battle a local bgirl (break dancer).

Grew up on a sail boat traveling through the Caribbean.

Drove my camper van to Burning Man 2000 and then across Mexico in 2003.

Fell in love.
