Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To save the world.

ABOUT ME

My name be Leia. I'm a full time activist. (though I've been on vacation for the past week and a half) I play guitar, sing and I write songs. I love to cook, and if you ever come over, or if I'm ever at your place, I'll cook up a storm to your delight.

PHILOSOPHY

Right now I'm really digging on the freegan lifestyle, though originally I come from Marxist background. I love being creative about where I get my resources. I hate being a mindless consumer.

I've found a long time ago that reading books on how to make the world a better place and arguing about what people say in those books with other leftists is stupid if that's all your doing. I want to do something about environmental issues, about political issues now, not wait for the revolution. There is no waiting for the revolution. The revolution is now, is whenever you make a move for it to be. The revolution is us living revolutionary lives.

I've found that living out ones ideal is the most profound way of going about it. It's not enough to say consumerism sucks, that people are just sheep that do what they are told - eat, shop and be entertained. You have to stop consuming; you have to start making something in the world around you. Not just being a passive, but an activist.

I don't pay money for food. I give out lots of free food. I don't pay money for my entertainment(Check out freegan.info). So many people spend all their hard earned money on things just to throw them away instead of sharing them with others, or trading them. Everything we need to live (and more really) has already been produced, so why spend more money? If all the junk factories were to stop today and we all shared the things that we would otherwise through away, we would have enough things to provide for everyone.

You've heard statistics like 50% of the food produced for America goes in to the trash. Well, I've actually looked at the trash of supermarkets and deli's in a few states and let me tell - you it's true.

There are starving people all over the world and this stuff is... in the trash.

It gets worse; you could go around Manhattan in a van late at night and fill it up completely with amazingly good quality stuff in a few blocks. What kind of stuff? Everything imaginable - every night - all over the place. Why? Because they don't have use for it, so no one else does right? So pollute the earth and create a constant state of false scarsity. Yeah right.

Sharing is a powerful method against corporate greed. Being communal with space, things, and food in this life now would be a huge blow against capitalism. Not waiting for our utopia but realizing we are amongst it.

Power to the people? Should we ask for our power? To whom do we ask our power from? We are the power; we are who make society run and move. We are ultimately the ones who will decide how to live our own lives.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I believe it's better to have lost and loved than to never have loved at all. I believe that it is better to give than to recieve. I think that if we look at each other with love and think about what we can do for each other rather than what we can get out of each other, everybody would have more of what they need.
