音乐、电影和书籍

Books:
I'm very interested in and read a lot of non-fiction, usually science, books: The Blank Slate (Steven Pinker), The Selfish Gene (Richard Dawkins), The Origin of Species (Charles Darwin), Guns, Germs, and Steel (Jared Diamond).

I admire Russian literature and consider myself fortunate to be able to have read my following favorites in their original: Eugene Onegin (by A. Pushkin), Crime and Punishment (F. Dostoevsky), The Master and Margarita (M. Bulgakov), short stories by A. Chekhov.

I love short stories and apart from Chekhov I really like works by John Updike and Alice Munro.

From contemporary fiction I really like: Middlesex (Jeffrey Eugenides), Story of My Life (Jay McInerney).

Music: Oldies but goldies..: Classic rock (bands such as Queen, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Led Zeppelin, and many others); 80s rock: Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Kiss;

Movies:
This is a tough one.. I don't like watching movies much and a movie has to be especially good for me to like it. Among my rare favorites I can name: Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, Closer, Pan's Labyrinth (the last two I've seen in the last week!). I like watching various documentaries (again, many of them have to do with science), and totally enjoy cartoon movies: Shrek, Ice Age, Finding Nemo.
