ABOUT ME

Hi!

I'm Etienne, from Montreal (Quebec).

I think actions speak louder than words. Here's a quote I like: "What you are shouts so loudly to my ears I cannot hear what you say." It's attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson. In that spirit, I won't bore you with a long description of who I think I am (are those ever accurate anyway?). I'll tell you this instead:

One of my goals in life is to make people feel good just by being around me. I think extraordinary experiences give life meaning. I pursue excitement with a vengeance. Those "fuck, yeah!" moments remind me I’m alive like nothing else.

Life is a flash, and we won't be remembered 150 years from now. With this in mind, I take the serious stuff lightly.

Still, this isn't an excuse to be a botch in every day life. I believe in self-actualization (Maslow) and aim to be the best I can be in what I do. Why settle for less?

PHILOSOPHY

In short, it's: work hard, play harder.

A combination of:

- Don't worry, be happy.

- Live and let live.

- First things first (friends, fun, family, and personal development).

- Money second. I see cash as a way to achieve pleasurable moments, and you won't see me spending the 20 best years of my life working 12 hours a day to "finish rich".

Honestly, only offering to tour people around the city for now.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed Paulo Tiago Muliterno's couch in Brazil in 2007. Great first experience.

Surfed Janneke, Giorgio Vinci, and Britta Groot in Amsterdam in April 2008. Unforgettable.

兴趣

1) Everything related to exercise, especially weightlifting.

2) The link between lifestyle and health and how habits impact quality and the span of life.

3) Video games X_X

4) Electronic music. When I'm home, there's always something playing. Currently: Pete Tong - The Essential Selection - Sat-12-07-2007.

5) People. Cultures. Languages. I find life in itself to be so intrinsically complex and fascinating. Man, being the most intricate form of life, fascinates me more than any other specie. I love to learn about people, the way they think and live, and how they're so different but also so alike in various countries.

Music: electronic music, please. Been keen on the afterhour/rave scene for the past 7 years. Toned it down lately, though.

Memorable conversation with a just-met friend on top of a hill overseeing Granada, Spain.

10 countries in 4 weeks in Europe in 2006. Knew someone at each stop, was a blast seeing so many old friends and new places in a short timespan.

Seeing Prague from atop a high tower in the city center.

Koninginnedag 2006 in Amsterdam. Fuck, yeah.
