About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to learn, to learn, to learn, to write, to travel, to learn.

ABOUT ME

My dream is to live small and to leave a thin trail to follow.

Some years ago I realized this can best be done, for me, on a bicycle. The bicycle is a mechanically simple machine that is powered by only me. It leads me to freedom, joy, variety, and friendship. If you have a bike, and if you host me, I will fix it or tune it up, with happiness!

PHILOSOPHY

When I was younger, I wanted to be a bug scientist who traveled the world in a hot air balloon. Since then I've been finding what a beautiful and terrifying paradox life is. Traveling only sets this fact into greater and greater contrast. I can't help my curiosity about the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by listening and leading, when I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None using the website. But sharing while traveling is like chewing while eating. It is included in the definition. I have shared my space, my things, my time, my heart. This is something like couchsurfing, no?

Interests

Most sports, any intelect. I want to live a life that allows my mind and body to be opened, pushed, pulled, and made content. So mountain biking and reading, mainly.

Music, Movies, and Books

Ann Carson. John Reed. The Czechs Hrabal, Kundera, Hasek, and Havel. James Thurber for life's reality, Mark Twain for life's cyclical history, and Isaac Asimov for what we will all become. Jazz and American Folk, experimental electronic, classical, punk.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Don't go camping alone in the Barranca Del Cobre, Mexico. It's a beautiful place, but really, just hire a guide. I learned some respect in that canyon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am working to master the juice harp. I will teach you or learn from you, depending on your skill. For the uninitiated: it's like a pocket-sized didgeridoo that makes a heavenly warble.

Countries I’ve Visited

Mexico, Netherlands

Countries I’ve Lived In

Czech Republic, Slovakia, United States
