About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live love learn... smile, be positive and help people!

ABOUT ME

Tall crazy Greek, would like to see, try and
learn as much as possible of this world, as life is
too short!
3 L's philosophy: Love, Live, Learn. Grew up in
Crete, Greece, spent 10 years in UK (4 years Modern
History, 2 Masters in Modern History and Politics, 4
years working in Marriott hotels). Came back to
Chania in 2006, work in family hotel in the summer
(www.niriishotel.com), May to
October. Constantly trying to discover the world,
the truth, and how to make this place better for
everyone through common sharing and exchange of ideas!
Also see places, meet people, learn and pick up
interests!
Look at my photos for more info on Chania, nature
and my interests!
I love traveling and meeting people from different
cultures and background who see the world from a
different perspective. Traveling broadens your
mind. I have visited many countries and like to
learn by getting under the skin of each culture,
civilisation and energy. I am alternative, open
minded and friendly.
Love nature and enjoy swimming far in the sea, diving
and hiking. Especially with the sea I have a strong
attraction and connection. Have many other interests,
look at the interests section!
Work too much in summer, 24/7 from March to beginning
of October. In the winter work is unpredictable, but
usually go hiking at weekends.
Have holidays between November to February, when I go
traveling for 2 months. The other 2 I have to help
and do maintainance work and fix things at home!

PHILOSOPHY

3 L's philosophy: Love, Live, Learn.
Keep the fire in your spirit.
Healthy mind in a healthy body.
Who dares wins.
(all quotes taken from ancient Greek philosophers)

Which are the four basic prime human needs which if we
don't fulfill, we either go crazy or we die?
If we enjoy these four basic things to the maximum,
we will have a happy life! I am not sure about the
last one, although its a primal humman need!
1. Making/being in Love with a woman/man
2. Sleep
3. Eat and drink (food is very important!)
4. Visit the toilet...!

Learn and share the knowledge through love. We are
the most advanced (perhaps) creatures on earth
because of our brain. Lets use it in a positive
dimension for our inner and world development. By
learning through street knowledge and books, and by
experimenting through opening different doors of
perception...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Trying to give the best advice on places to visit and
what to do in western Crete. Go out with surfers,
surfing in parties, hikes and music events, within my
limited time! Oh, and hosting more than 100
couchsurfers, while being hosted just once (where I
usualy travel is only
nature, no couches and no surfers)!
Look at my photos for more info on me, Chania,
nature and my interests!
Check group 'Chania, Hania, Canea' in
About for more info!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CS is an excellent idea, although it always relies on
the goodwill, kindness (and time) of people! So far I
didn't have any major problems with my guests or host
experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I like everything electronic (UK resident for 10
years): experimental, unusual, chill out, electro,
anything since the 70's, tribal, beat, breaks, D'n'B,
trip hop, scratch, progressive, psychedelic trance,
trance and tech-house!
I also love latin (dancing since '07), funk, jazz,
ethnic, world, hip-hop, reggae, ska, punk, and
rembetiko, zeimbekiko, traditional Greek music.
Rembetiko is the 'Greek Reggae': lyrics from the
hardships of life, streets and underground!

Books:
Herman Hesse: Siddharta
Paulo Cohelo: The Alchemist
Carlos Castaneda: The teachings of Don Juan
Anything by Herman Hesse, Paulo Cohelo. Books that
make you think, Philosophy and historical, nature and
culture books. Generaly speaking, books where you
learn about the world and life.

TV is in the bin.

Movies: Not much, prefer to go out and do things than waste
my time on a screen. Prefer documentaries on nature
and history. If I have to watch a movie, I like
comedies, action films and European productions.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelled alone for 2 months in Mexico when I was
18. Watching the sunrise on the top of a Mayan temple
(Palenque), in the jungle in Mexico. Doing
paragliding in Rio and Skydiving in Sweden. Diving
and hiking in many places. Canyoning is the new
adrenline sport which I love!
Hiked accross the White Mountains (in Chania, Crete
island), 32Km in 17 hours, total of 2300m ascent, in
2 days. Going to underground (squat) parties in
London. All the world and everybody is amazing! You
just have to discover it/them! The most amazing thing
is that I am alive, in a good health, brought up with
love which I can now share. Simple things that we
take for granded are the most amazing things in life.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you are interested in Greek culture, history,
Cretan healthy diet, hiking, I am your man! Have a
look at my interests. I can teach you a bit of these.
There are two forms of school: the street and the
books. In the street you learn about the reality of
life, survival, strength, evil and good. In books you
expand your spirit, knowledge and understanding. To
be successful in life you need both kinds of
education. Traveling is the biggest school of life,
understanding yourself, other people, expand your
mind, learn from simple people, the real philosophers
of life...
There is always something to learn in life. And I
want to learn as many things as possible...

HOW TO MAKE RAKOMELO (OR VODKOMELO), THE ESSENTIAL DRINK IN CRETE! FOR CONSUMPTION OR MEDICAL USE!

1. Take as much as Raki you like to drink. Raki is a Cretan spirit with Ottoman origins (its called Arak in Turkish). If you don’t have Raki, take a ‘neutral’ spirit, such as Vodka (thus Vodkomelo)!
2. Heat it up in a pot, preferably the traditional ‘briki’, where Greek/Turkish cofee is made (if you don’t have this, then at any small pot), at a low fire, around 1.5-2 gas mark, for 10-15 minutes. DON’T boil (the alcohol evaporates), and add from the beggining the following ingredients depending on taste: a stick of cinamon, a peel of lemon and cloves. Alternatively, you can add a herbal tea of your preference. In Crete we add 2-3 sticks of Malotira (or Mountain tea) and Dictamo.
3. Then add honey, depending on taste, until it disolves. I personaly put 1/3 honey. Leave on fire, until a white tiny foam is formed. When foam covers the majority of surface, take out and serve. Drink hot, preferably in cold winters or when you got the flu.
Forget the medecines! Drink 1 shot of Rakomelo, do Ventuzes (heat up with alcohol the inside of glasses and stick them on the back of sick person, repeat process constantly with 4-5 glasses, for 5-10 minutes), then massage with 90% proof Raki (or Protoraki, the first Raki that comes out from the distilation process), cover up sick person and keep back warm. In a few minutes patient will start sweating (the body expells harmfull microorganisms through sweat). Rest and sleep well, next day patient is fine!
