Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Chase: I lived on a couch in San Diego California for a month while I contemplated going to school in that area. Also, in October of this year I summited a mountain in Montana and while up there my friend and I met two women who were familiar with couch surfing. They asked where we were staying and we told them that we were going to stay in our car that night. They told us that that would be unacceptable and offered their couch. We met their friends at a party on a ranch, one of us ate duck, and it ended at her house, which was a cabin at the base of the rocky mountains.

Interests

Chase: Literature, poetry, learning about nature (flora and fauna of areas that i live in), hiking, camping, learning about J.R.R. Tolkien's world, watching the sky, rifling through dozens of texts (poetry or fiction) then finding one that is ripe and delicious.

Shannon: Literature (especially fantasy, sci-fi, folklore, women's studies), writing poetry and fiction, exploring the paranormal. I'm a musician- piano, bagpipes, guitar, oboe. I love to be outdoors in nature. Animals (especially cats), trees, and astronomy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Chase: For music I listen to Ambient, Shoegazing, electronica, classical (satie and arvo part mostly) and many types of world music including; irish, indian and native american. A recent movie that had an impact on me was "The Cave of the Yellow Dog." Books: anything Tolkien, Joyce, W.S. Merwin, Jack Gilbert, Henri Cole, Hayden Carruth, Brigit Pageen Kelly

Shannon: Books/Authors- Pablo Neruda poetry, H.D., Sappho's fragments, Milan Kundera, Dostoyevsky, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Lord of the Rings, the Harry Potters, His Dark Materials, Edward Gorey, Written on the Body, comic books with tough female heroes.
Music- Sigur-Ros, Radiohead, Bjork, Yann Tiersen, The Police, New Order, Loreena McKennitt, Enya, Irish music, other world music, Classical (like Satie, Rachmaninoff, Michael Nyman)
